Sharing Your Pregnancy News With Your Partner

Baby Bump: Celebrating the Baby News With Your Partner

There are some milestones in that nearly every woman romanticizes — the first kiss, high school graduation, being swept off her feet by a marriage proposal, and losing her virginity on a bed of roses. Then, there's telling her partner she's pregnant with their first child.

To find out how I told my hubby our news,

.

I always thought I would be creative while announcing the news. Maybe I'd buy a doll or give him a card so I could watch his expression. But instead, I grabbed my honey just before he ran out the door for work and told him, "I think it worked!" Baffled, he said, "What worked?" to which I replied, "I think I'm pregnant!"

He grabbed me and we literally jumped up and down until I became nervous that we would shake the baby loose. Far different from what I had envisioned, the moment was more meaningful than I could have imagined.

How did you tell your partner you were pregnant?

We took the test together. Then we went out and rented "Knocked Up".

Ummm, well first off I never fantastized about losing my virginity on a bed of roses - am I alone here? LOL. Anyway, the first time hubby was there when I took the test, the second time he walked in from work while I was changing baby #1 in around March and I told him "I found a way to get an extra $1,000 back on our taxes next year. Did you know they give you an extra thousand dollars back for each additional child?" He knew I was late, so he put two and two together. As far as the third (who is due this June)- it wasn't planned, and came as a total shock. Hubby got a sobbing phone call at work and ended up taking a 1/2 vacation day to come home and console me. About 2 minutes after walking in the door he said "I have to tell you the truth, when you told me the news, I wasn't upset at all, I got REALLY excited." Can't help lovin' that man of mine. :)

Aww, you guys are giving me so much to look forward to. We've been trying and just found out from my husband's tests that he's borderline 'normal'....so I CAN'T WAIT TO BE PREGGERS!!

I'm in the minority here. My husband and I are child-free by choice. I never romanticized about being pregnant. My husband and I are very diligent about our birth control, and we're happy whenever my period arrives.Just want to share my story. Representing a minority. :)

Same thing happened both times — the thin pink line appeared and I said, "I'm pregnant!".

I used fertility drugs so my hubby was pretty clued in to what was going on. I think it was 2wks after my ovulation that I decided to take a test just to see. I took one first thing in the a.m. with him in the bathroom with me and the results were inconclusive. Not a negative or a positive on the stick. We were going to wait until the next day to take another, but when I got to work I just couldn't take it anymore and I had to know. As soon as I got done and for sure saw 2 pink lines indicating the positive I rushed out to the car to call him. Even though we were definitely trying he was still in a bit of shock. It was so cute. He kept asking if I was serious and if I was sure. Wow, that was just over a year ago. :)

I hope to be able to decide at some point in the future. I'll probably take the test with him there. We've been trying for a long while & I don't want him to miss out on that part of the process. If I find that I can't wait, though, & take the test without him, I'll probably plan a romantic dinner & give him a present of something baby related. I do know how I want to tell my family, though. We have already discussed that we want to wait at least 3 months before we tell anyone. After that, we will have a big party & announce it there. I'm not sure how I'll be able to keep it from my mother, though. She is very observant, smart, & crafty! So is my dad!

The Sunday after Thanksgiving this past year we were packing up our apartment because we were going to move that Friday. I wasn't feeling well that day, and barely did any packing. I suddenly got very dizzy, and decided to take a test, even though I was supposed to get my period that Tuesday.I took the test and not even 30 seconds later, it was positive. I screamed (I don't remember screaming, but my husband said I did) and bolted downstairs. My husband gave me a hug and asked "What do we do now?" I told him to get more tests. The first place he went to was completely sold out of all pregnancy tests (we lived in South Boston at the time...anyone from there totally gets this). He went to a 2nd pharmacy, and bought 6 more for me. They all were positive.

I don't have kids yet but when I do suspect pregnancy I think we will take the test together. It's such a big moment in his life too that I couldn't imagine not taking one with him there.Out of the three tests I've ever taken he was there for two of them. -- It was actually two different scenarios. On the first one I only took one test. The second time I thought I was pregnant I took one test (with him there) and it was negative ... well the next day I was still feeling like I was and thought maybe the test was wrong so I took another one (he wasn't there...and I felt bad lol) but it was negative too.

I had a feeling that I was pregnant, and had told my husband as much... so we'd bought the tests together. Well, by the time I remembered that I needed to use the test first thing in the morning (trust me - it can be hard to remember that if you really have to go), it was a Saturday and my husband was sound asleep. Was. I took the first test (we had two) and no sooner than I took the test, it said I was pregnant (yay for digital tests). I wanted to wake him up, but he'd just worked an insane 18 hours, so I waited quietly. Hoping he'd wake up. But I don't think I made it more than 15 minutes. So I jumped into bed and just held the test up in front of him so that he could read it. He was thrilled, but made me take another test... just to be sure. LOL.

Ha. My husband always knows I'm pregnant before I do so there's never any cutesy reveal.
