Six-Year-Old Gives Himself License to Drive

You miss your bus so you hop in the car. Not a big deal...except if you are six! A Virginia boy put the pedal to the metal in his family's Ford Taurus after he missed his ride on Monday. While his mom slept, he grabbed the keys and got going, running off the road multiple times before he hit an embankment and utility pole. Luckily, he suffered only minor injuries despite not having buckled up and even made it to class after a trip to the hospital. What is going on in the world these days? One kid takes the wheel and a couple of others tried to get hitched?

i meant for teenagers as someone stated above, i didn't mean younger kids who are 12 and under.

not all parents can get up to make lunch for their teenagers, you know they might have an early job or they might have a night job. i'm speaking from experience.

it makes me irate when i hear of kids whose mothers are still sleeping when they leave for school that's why stuff like this happens! it's so neglectful. and he's only 6, which is way worse, but it's even bad at any age, even for teenagers. get up, make your child lunch, ensure they have breakfast, ensure they are dressed warmly and make it to their ride ontime...it's your job!

i wouldn't have done this but in elementary school i accepted rides from strangers to school when i missed the bus sometimes because i was afraid to say no and my parents would've been mad if they knew i'd been late :)

Im sure he had the mindset that he was old enough to get to school himself, or he was afraid of his mother. We really dont know anything about the home life, just that his mother has obviously been making him get up and get ready on his own. If she feels fit to sleep through this, im sure shes off doing whatever else the rest of the day. He probably does almost everything alone.

I don't get all these self starting 6 year olds. My kids - I just can't see them thinking about marriage and love like that or taking the car and trying to drive to school. Maybe he was really afraid of what mom would do if she knew he missed the bus. Don't most parents now days wait at the bus stop with the little ones?

Mom was sleeping? Who helped him get ready and made sure he got to the bus stop? I have a six year old and couldn't imagine this. My child would never even imagine it would be ok to take the car. Unbelievable!
