Sleeping With Baby

Why Didn't Anybody Tell Me: Crawling Into the Crib

Maybe you've scooted around on your kid's trike or squeezed your tush into his favorite chair, but have you ever crawled into your tot's crib to cuddle up with him? I'm guilty of it.

When my daughter was about three weeks old, we moved her into her crib so she would learn to like it without ever knowing anything different. A blessing and a curse, she cherishes her sleeping spot so much that I could never convince her to nap with me. To see what I did in a moment of insanity,

.

Craving a good snuggle, I desperately crawled into her crib to lay down with her. Upon noticing mommy's arrival, my darling was not impressed. I must have sounded off the intruder alert, as she shot up and said, "No!" and pushed herself up against the railing. I am heartbroken but still hopeful that one day she will want to cuddle up with me. At the same time, I am proud that little miss independent savors her own space.

Have you dared to climb into your child's crib?

Cute story. My 3 year old is set on no one in her bed. Even on vacations we try to sleep in the same bed with her...but she always says "mommy get out, I am trying to sleep". She will cuddle on the couch but no go in the bed. Hope it holds out and she is super old before she lets anyone sleep with her ;)

I have totally done this. When we were transitioning her into the crib when she was 6 months old, she had a really hard time. I did it out of complete desperation and was so surprised when it worked. I continued to hop in with her for 3 or 4 nights (I didn't sleep in there, I got out when she passed out) and she's been sleeping through the night ever since. It worked like a champ.I will say, though, that we have a very sturdy crib and I'm also quite limber :).

When my 7 month old was in the hospital for 4 days, my then boyfriend, now husband, crawled into the hospital crib and slept beside him to keep him company. I would be afraid to do it in a home crib though in case it broke!!

I've never done this, but I must admit I've seriously considered it. Good to hear I'm not the only crazy one!! :P

Nope. I think I'd bust myself or the crib (or both?!) if I tried. I take my 6 month old out of her crib in the morning and feed her before I have to go to work so we lay down and snuggle in my bed then.

I agree cuddling time is important if your child is into cuddling, but I just think crawling in the crib is just odd. Now I do however have a very cuddly kid who will cuddle on the couch and take a nap with me - so I guess I don't understand or have a need to crawl in the crib.

How do you get in??? Do you use a step ladder? I'd be scared of breaking it.

I think this is sweet, but I haven't done it. I usually cuddle with my daughters to put them down for naps, so I understand the sentiment.I love that time to be close with them.

I have thought of it but didn't think it would hold me, I'm even scared to sit on it for a minute. But I do bring my son into bed with me occasionaly if I want that snuggle time.

I used to lie down with my son to help him go to sleep when he was getting too big to rock to sleep. I'd always fall asleep too and wake up like an hour later all stiff from being contorted in the crib. Well, it was a crib with the side taken off and the toddler rails put on... With my daughter, she always put herself to sleep. But, every once in a while she'll wake up WAY too early and refuse to go back to sleep. So, I'll lie down with her in the same toddler bed/crib and grab a little more shut eye. Snuggling with babies is great. Who cares where!?

I think this is incredibly sweet. I can just see you doing this. It's a funny visual, with a very, very heartfelt reason.
