Snoring While Pregnant

Why Didn't Anybody Tell Me: Snoring

After I woke myself up from a slumber one night, I did some research to find out just why my nose was starting to make its own music. Many expectant ladies take to snoring in the second and third trimesters. Nearly 25 to 30 percent of all bumpalicious women pick up the often annoying sleeping habit.

It turns out that a few factors may be responsible for the pesky nasal noise. A woman experiences higher estrogen levels during pregnancy, increasing the mucous membranes lining the nose and causing her to make more mucus. Similar to the increase in estrogen, an expecting lady also produces more blood, which causes blood vessels to expand and can lead to swollen nasal membranes. Both of these can obstruct a nasal passage, making it more difficult to breathe clearly. Weight gain can also lead to snoring. A woman's throat and neck may be the culprit, as they get heftier during her pregnancy. Aside from watching her weight, one of the only remedies for pregnancy induced snoring is to sleep on one's side.

I enjoyed reading your article on snoring. One solution that many people are unaware of is nasal irrigation. I snore and recently my doctor recommended Nasopure, a nose wash. It has helped opened my air ways so i can now breathe easier and my snoring has greatly decreased. Also I understand that it is very hard for pregnant women to take medications for anything. This is a natural solution that is perfectly safe for women during pregnancy. Their website www.nasopure.com is very informative too.

Another thing I expected that never happened, thanks to my sister's warnings. However, I snore regularly now that I've given birth.
