Summer is the perfect time to get friends and family together to celebrate longer days and warmer nights. The keys to a successful Summer soiree? Your get-together should include fun, friends, and family, divide up responsibilities, and feature a cool party theme.
A few of our favorite themes include:
Ice Cream "Sunday" Party
Let ice cream be the star of this end-of-the-week celebration. Throw this party midday or in the evening, and see how many creative toppings you can come up with for your ice cream sundae bar — cookie crumbles, fresh fruit, maybe even candied bacon! To add a "wow" factor to the get-together, make homemade ice cream, which will take your sundaes to the next level.
For Summer fun . . . just add water! Host a wet and wild party at your neighborhood pool or right in your own backyard. Kids love getting wet, and parents will love how inexpensive this party can be. Make super sponge soakers from everyday sponges, have water relays and pool-noodle jousts, and play squirt-bottle tag.
Garage Party Get-Together
Get the neighborhood together for a decidedly fun evening on your driveway. BYOLC (bring your own lawn chairs) and each family can provide munchies and beverages to share. The kiddos can ride bikes and scooters (don't forget to put up cones in the street for added safety) and enjoy good times and fresh air with their friends.
Sweets and Treats Summer Buffet
Host an afternoon sweets and treats buffet with a variety of semihomemade goodies you can make in a snap. We have some great ideas in our Summer Crafts and Recipes section including ice cream cookie cones, hot diggety dog brownies, sunshine skewers, fun flip-flop cookies, and more!
Summer Signature Drink Progressive Party
This adult theme can be combined with other party ideas or stand on its own. Designate three to five houses in the neighborhood that will be the stops for your progressive party. Each house will have a host that serves up a signature cocktail. Some of our favorites include refreshing sangria, fruit-flavored margaritas, and lemon drops. Get creative and don't forget to have munchies available as well.
Olympics Pool Party
Nothing says "fun" like some friendly competition! Host this party at your neighborhood or backyard pool, and let the games begin! Decorate with Olympics colors, serve themed snacks, and have teams compete in relay races or do synchronized swimming and tricks. Be sure to have lifeguards on duty to ensure safety for everyone, and check on your community pool's specific rules.
Summer Film Festival
Attach a white sheet to your garage door (or use a large screen if you have one) and use a projector to showcase a family-friendly film on your driveway. Have neighbors bring chairs, blankets, and snacks to share. As the host, provide buckets of popcorn, drinks, and candy to make for a "real" movie experience!
