Teen Jailed Over Sarcastic Facebook Comment

In the wake of the Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting, everyone should know it's not acceptable to joke about shooting up a school. Unfortunately, Texas teen Justin Carter did not get the message. He has been in jail since February over a sarcastic comment he made on Facebook, the Huffington Post reports.

According to Justin's father, Jack, Justin was arguing on Facebook with a friend over the video game League of Legends. Upset with Justin, the friend commented, "Oh you're insane, you're crazy, you're messed up in the head," and Justin wrote back a line jokingly mentioning a school shooting. Unfortunately for Justin, a woman in Canada saw the online comments and took them seriously. She alerted police, who charged him for making a "terroristic threat."

Get the whole story on what Justin said at the Huffington Post.

using "he doesn't know about current events" what a crock I haven't had cable or newspapers in 5 years and i still know what's going on in the world, social media is just that and that in itself keeps you updated on what is going on in the world around you. I do think 8 years is a little harsh but it is America where they house their criminals forever. No excuse for the comment period

ok i think this kid should get in trouble but not 8 years he will come out worse off then when he went in the father is not letting his kid take respondisablit for what he said its about others and it dont matter if your son doesnt watch tv or read the paper he should know about the old school shooting and that be enough

What is wrong with people? First of all, this kid should not have joked about a school shooting. It was in very poor taste and inappropriate. Secondly, this woman overreacted. Finally, the police are making an example of this kid. Keeping him in jail for months and trying to convict with a sentence of 8 years in prison? Seriously? Murderers and rapists get away every day, but they'll send a kid to prison over a "terroristic comment". Unfriend and Unlike!
