Tips For Shopping With Children

The Mother of Invention: How Do You and Your Kids Roll?

A grocery cart can carry many kids! Motherhood is the mother of invention. Once you've got a few children, life — shopping, lugging, carrying, and carting is a juggle! I've tried a myriad of ways to manage my three kids while we're out running errands — one in the front of the cart, one in the back, and one riding it like a scooter, but was beyond impressed when I saw how Twitter mama deboyama braves Target with her four youngsters in tow! Whether a mom of twins is out for a walk wearing one babe in a front carrier and the other in a backpack, or containing two tots by pushing one in a buggy and the other on an attachable board, I want to know how your family rolls! Fill us in.

Right now, I have an infant carrier and my 2 year old. For the most part, I put her in the back basket, and put him on the handle bars - with the latch that latches it to it. I don't liek it, and it can feel really hectic if the baby is being fussy, but its easier to stack groceries and thigns around the 2 yo. We are working on having her walk beside the cart, but I worry about her wandering off, and shes very strong willed. I just try to go to the store once or twice a week so I never have to get too much at once. I also use reusable shopping bags, so that helps keep everything contained and give her more room.

Lol! Girl Jen, I had to laugh. My daughter is the same way. I always try and go grocery shopping when I have my boyfriend with me, that way he can carry her while I pick out the groceries, or vice versa. Often times I have to go with just my daughter and I, and that's when the "fun" begins, haha. I try to bring little toys and snacks to entertain her....but as you know, sometimes nothing works! Oh, the fun of grocery shopping with children. My daughter will only sit in the seat part of the cart (like Girl Jen we don't put her in the basket), and if she wants out, she "helps" me push the cart.

Deboyama, WOW! I'm thoroughly impressed. :D I just have one child, who sits in the seat of the cart, then wants out. Then she wants in, then out. Then she wants to help me shop by putting things that I didn't ask for in the cart. Then she wants to ride in the basket, which is a no no in our family (my little brother fell out of a basket and hit his head when he was a toddler). Then she whines because I should have brought the stroller. Then she wants a piggyback ride. Then she wants in the seat. Then she'll walk. GAAAAH!! My solution to this is to go shopping right after naptime, and make the trip so quick that she's still in the groggy waking up stage when we hit the cash register.

You are brave! And yes, where do you put the groceries? I only have 2 kids, but have found it's really tough. My son sits in the front of the cart (top) and I put the carrier in the cart. Then there is no room! I discovered this dilemma on my first outing out with both and was laughing while I placed groceries wherever I could all around the cart, including on top of the carrier the best I could. :)

Deboyama you are brave...or just plain crazy! I don't even like to go to Target or supermarkets with 2. If I put one in the top seat, the other wants to sit there. Or if I put one in the bottom, they both want to sit there and I have no room for groceries!
