Tried and True Tricks For Making Baby Giggle

Feb 14 2012 - 4:03pm

One of the most enjoyable things for a parent to hear is the shrieks of delight from their children. We'll do anything to strike up a belly laugh in our infants, but often times it takes a few trials to figure out what makes your tot tick. We've rounded up a few of our tried and true tricks to get any baby to giggle with glee.

Blowing Raspberries

Your child may like the tasty fruit, but he'll squeal with delight from mom and dad blowing raspberries on his body. From his feet to his belly, nothing is off limits for this sure fire way to induce laughter.

Kisses, Kisses

Lil ones love wet ones. Plant a few (or a few hundred) kisses on your babe's face, feet, and hands and you're both in for a sweet giggle or two.

Shake a Tail Feather

Kiddos love to watch mama shake her groove thing. Turn up the music (or make your own) and teach your tot to dance like no one is watching. Mama will have a very captivated and pleased onlooker.

Get Baby Moving

Babies may love watching their parents dance around the room but it's even more fun when they're included. Pick up the budding star and bounce, twirl, and fly him around the house for a burst of laughter.

Sound It Out

Beep, bonk, boop, boink... familiar sounds to adults can be funny to baby. Channel the inner Larry, Curly and Moe to add silly noises and laughter to a lil one's life.

Copy Cat

Most babies agree with the rule that imitation is the best form of flattery. Get the tot grinning ear to ear by copying his noises, facial expressions, hand movements, and laughter.

Play Peekaboo

Peekaboo, mommy sees you! Baby loves the thrill of the simple game. From the suspense of watching Mommy's face disappear to the excitement of it returning into view, a stimulating game of peekaboo almost never fails to crack up even the tiniest of players.

Sing a Song

Mommy's singing voice my not be her most prized possession, but silly songs are music to her little one's ears. Singing to a child will lift both spirits — and when it comes to getting giggles, the wackier the song, the better.

Put on a Funny Face

Turn those long loving stares into bursts of laughter by putting on a few silly faces. Monkey ears, fish lips, and flaring nostrils are as fun for baby as they are for mama to do.

Call in the Tickle Monster

If finding a wee one's funny bone is proving to be a challenge, mom may need to call in the reinforcement: the tickle monster. Tickling tots is one of the greatest joys in life, especially before they know how to wiggle away.
