Twin Boys Were Born Not Only on 2 Separate Days but Also in Different Years

It's one thing to have a hospital's first baby of the New Year, but for the Shay family, who just welcomed twins, they had that honor in addition to another fun birth-story quirk: their first twin was born right before midnight on Dec. 31. Sawyer Matthew Shay was born at 11:51 p.m. on New Year's Eve, closing out 2016 for his parents with a bang, and his younger twin brother, Everett Jackson, was born at 12:01 a.m. on Jan. 1, making him Banner Health's first birth of 2017.

Although the Arizona fraternal twins are typical in that they're just minutes apart, both boys will have a rare story to tell when they're older about how it is that they were born not only on different days — which both happen to be holidays — but also in different years.
