With this week's news full of stories about special dads, we're especially touched by the efforts of one in particular, Leo McCarthy of Butte, MT, to help keep teens out of DUI accidents.

After losing his 14-year-old daughter Mariah to a drunk driver 5 years ago, McCarthy promised in her eulogy that he would be there for other teens. He started Mariah's Challenge, in which teens become eligible for a $1,000 scholarship by making it through high school without drinking or getting in a car with a driver who's been drinking.

About 8,000 young people have taken Mariah's Challenge, and over 140 high school graduates have won scholarships through the program. "Mariah is forever 14," McCarthy told CNN. "I can't get her back, but I can help other parents keep their kids safe."
