Ways to Keep Calm

What Does Mommy Do For Her Time Out?

Most moms have experienced a "Calgon, take me away" moment. It's 5 p.m. — the kids are crying, mommy still hasn't showered, dinner is burned, and dad is out of town. Every now and then a mom can't handle the heat and needs to get out of the kitchen before her last nerve fizzles. Cooling down and gathering oneself is an art. When I reach the end of my rope, I take deep breaths and pray to God for patience. Humming a tune helps calm me and can often have a similar effect on my tots, too. What do you do to keep your cool?

That's the part of the movie when she says NO WIRE HANGERS! Sad movie, true story. Anyways, I usually just step out for a bit and take a breather, think about the situation and try to make the best of it. Works for me. :)

Deep breaths work wonders and if you step back and look at any situation, it's usually not a big deal.

Really, Mommy Dearest?!? Scary! I don't have kids yet myself but hope I can find some healthy outlet that won't emotionally scar my kids down the road.

I lock myself in the bathroom. There is a 50/50 chance that the kids will stand at the door screaming louder, but when Im in there I just block it all out

That picture is terrifying. I remove myself from the situation for a couple of minutes.

I start to blow raspberries at my daughter. For some reason, it calms me down, she blows them back and we both end up giggling. Some of the best advice I ever got was that it's ok to put the baby down and walk away if I need to.
