Weight Gain During Pregnancy 2008-10-24 09:00:48

Tell Mommy: How Much Weight Did You Gain?

Women of all different shapes and sizes gain varying amounts of weight when expecting. Milla Jovovich wrote on her official site that she gained nearly 70 pounds in the first seven months of pregnancy. Kate Hudson also gained about the same amount of weight during her pregnancy with Ryder. She told Vogue:

I would be eating ice cream and my mom would literally pry the spoon away from me, saying, 'You've had enough to last you a lifetime.

While many other factors play a part in a woman's scale increase, the average recommended weight gain during pregnancy is generally somewhere between 25 and 35 pounds. I gained 38 pounds with my first child and I may max out at 40 pounds with the second while my teeny relative only packed on a mere 12 pounds to her petite frame.

Tell mommy, how much weight did you gain during your pregnancy?

I gained 50 and this is my first pregnancy. I feel like a huge truck....how hard was it for most of you to lose the additional weight?

I gained 30. Most of what I craved was healthy! I couldn't get enough frozen raspberries and lemons. My dentist lectured me for the lemons! I did crave red meat though. I impressed my hubby one night by eating 1 1/2 lbs of steak! I could never do that now!

I only gained 12lbs with my first child, 10 with my second and currently i am 10lbs under at 30wks... 'all day sickness' is the trade off for the low weight gain and quick loss

I marked 40-50 but honestly I gained around 95. I just went to town being pregs. I was a little underweight because i was a runner and now I have maintained at about 20lbs heavier than I was before being pregs.

I was overweight when I got pregnant with my first daugther, and ended up losing like 40 pounds becuase I took on alot more activity.. I never put it back on, but they werent worried as everything was measuring correctly and i didnt have any issues with my blood/urine tests.

I don't give myself a deadline for losing it. I figure that first year, I have way more important things to worry about. I'm not saying someone shouldn't concentrate on it, I'm just saying that for me personally, the first year isn't where I do it.

I gained 42lbs the first baby, I had lost 22 of that when I got pregnant again I only gained 26. I'm STILL trying to lose 30lbs now, 3.5 years later. My best friend had a baby 2 weeks ago and she's in her old clothes already. It's inspiring.. and irritating.:P

42 lbs. I probably would have made it to 50 if it weren't for all of the morning sickness in the beginning!

i'm so glad to see some women on here who LOST weight during pregnancy. i am 17 weeks pregnant and haven't gained a pound yet due to some health problems and surgery 2 weeks ago. i have been super paranoid that i am harming the baby by not gaining more but due to nausea and 2 hospital stays with liquid diets my appetite is so screwed up and i just can't eat as much i should! i am working hard on catching up though ;)

I agree, luckyme. I also feel bad that the poll makes it look like anything over 50 shouldn't even be mentioned. People handle both weight gain and weight loss so differently, just do what's acceptable to you and your doctor. A lot of things matter more than the flat number.

I gained 35 with my first. I lost it all within 5 months of her birth. And I've since lost more. Now, I'm pregnant again, and I will eat when I'm hungry and not try to keep my weight gain to any specific number. I think some people gain more, some people gain less and putting an arbitrary number to how much you're "supposed" to gain is silly. Obviously, pregnancy should not be a free ticket to eat whatever the heck you want, but as long as you're eating healthy and your health is good, don't worry about the weight!

I'm 9 weeks and so far gained 5 pounds which is already more than the 2-4 recommended for your ENTIRE first trimester. I'm thinking that their recommendations are a little crazy b/c I've been sick a bit and not eating nearly as much as normal but eating more bland carbs b/c that's pretty much all I can stomach AND still gaining weight....what gives???

don't remember, lol. i do remember stepping on the scale at the hospital the day after my first, and one nurse saying to aother "why do all of these moms step on the scale thinking they will magically have lost all the weight", as if i wasn't standing there on the scale, puffy, exhausted, pulling my iv around after me :raspberry: when i lost the weight it was almost all at once, about 3 or 4 weeks out it just melted off of me.
