When Couples Disagree on Parenting Styles

Discuss Parenting Styles With Your Partner Before Baby

Many couples vow 'till death do they part before becoming parents. When the baby arrives bringing bliss and hope, many duos unexpectedly find themselves at odds in the parenting department. A mom may believe in Montessori education while her hubby is a staunch boarding school supporter.

Before committing to each other as life partners bound together by offspring, many couples discuss the concept of parenthood and realize their compatibility or lack thereof. Those who skipped the conversation or missed out on the opportunity to have one may have a tough road to travel if they don't see eye to eye. Did you and your partner discuss parenting styles before having kids?

We touched on the topics in our marriage preparation program but not really in depth. I wish I could find some sort of parent preparation class now before we even get pregnant. There are a few things we don't agree on, and some things we did not even think to consider about until recently. Overall our core values are the same, so hopefully there won't be too many disagreements when we finally have kids.

My husband and I talked about how we would raise our kids before we got married and the conversation continues as different issues come up.

My husband and I are like night and day with a lot of our beliefs but we're very respectful and communicative so I'm not too worried. Still, like we took pre-marital counseling before we got married we will also take the pre-baby counseling course offered by the same therapist before we have kids. Just to be sure we talk through likely issue and get on the same page.

we are trying to have a baby right now (well not right now but you know what i mean!) we have been married 9 years, and in all of those 9 years we have ALWAYS discussed how we would eventually parent our child/children. The world is full of instances where you can turn and say "how would you handle that" "what would we do?" You cant turn on the tv and NOT see an example of bad parenting whether its on the news or a tv show. If you have never talked parenting styles, or if you dont know whether or not your partner wants to spank, something is wrong in that relationship (granted, you have to want to have kids to have these conversations)
