When to Give Up the Diaper Bag

When Did You Ditch the Diaper Bag?

Moms tend to have a love-hate relationship with their diaper bags. They love the pockets, waterproof linings, and ability to hang them from their strollers, but hate compromising their personal style. Sure, there are plenty of designer diaper bags and that can help mama stay fashionable when toting her tot, but they tend to be pricey and still have that "diaper-bag feel" to them.

I've seen moms do a little dance for joy when their lil one is potty trained, not just because they won't be doing diaper changes anymore, but because moms can switch back to a normal handbag for daily outings. Other women make the transition long before they're nappy-free, just shoving the necessities into their purses. When did you give up the diaper bag?

The only times I really used a diaper bag was when we were travelling via plane or when we were doing all day outings (we travel by public transport a lot) up until my daughter was potty trained. Oh - and the first time we had an outing. We went to the grocery store and I was prepared for the end of the world. I had like 4 bottles, a box of diapers, 2 packs of wipes. I was trying to get something off a shelf and "somebody" kept knocking this off behind me. Turned out it was my huge, overflowing diaper bag!!

Agree with starbucks. I just used my regular sized purse, threw a diaper and wipes and snacks and I was fine. However, I did keep the actual diaper bag in the trunk of my car with all the extras. Just in case. But how far/long are you ever going to be away from your car or home? How much pee/poop can there be?!??!

I never really had a diaper bag in the first place. I just used a big bag that I also threw her stuff in. I always read about people having everything possible in their diaper bag. Nowadays I just toss 2 diapers, wet wipes, a banana and her sippy cup in there...

Me too, Girl Jen. As soon as I got rid of the diaper bag, I bought myself a fab purse that was large enough to hold my kid necessities, but not so big that it would become a black hole (like my diaper bag).

I got rid of the diaper bag when my little one was about two, and I acquired a super awesome and absolutely huge purse.
