If mom and dad are in the midst of all the new baby bliss and hospital (or home birth) hoopla, is it the job of an outside party — a grandparent or family friend — to inform the big brother or sister? My aunt told us when our baby brother was born. My twin and I (5 years old at the time) were worried about Mom and the baby, and getting the info that both Mom and little bro were ok was a huge relief. Was it supposed to be a special moment? I'd rather hear "Mom and baby are ok" as soon as possible than wait to hear from Mom herself.
