Whose Decision Was Weaning?

Weaning can be tough on mama or baby, or both — depending on who is initiating the process. Some nursing moms pinpoint a time when they will try and cut their tot off, while some children call it quits with the boob on their own as they start eating more "real" food. The majority of LilSugar readers nursed their baby for at least a year, but whose decision was it to wean when you eventually stopped: yours or your child's?

This makes me so angry. There seems to be such a stigmata against breastfeeding. Honestly, and I know I'm being very jugdemental here, I have no sympathy for mothers who don't choose to breastfeed(unless they are unable to do so, or have severe problems, of course). And the nursing in public. Boobs were made to feed babies. It's not my fault they were so sexualized by men. If I want to feed my baby in public I sure as hell will. And yes, I also think breastfeeding a 7-year old is a but much, but if he and his mother are comfortable with it, go ahead. People have dirty minds and think it's unappropriate because they relate sucking on boobs to sex. Well guess what, it has nothing to do with that. It's intimacy between a mother and her child! Í am currently exclusively breastfeeding my almost 4-month old. I am planning on weaning her at about 9 months, but who knows...And that's my own decision.

And twisty -- women who are nursing aren't "flashing" their breasts. Nursing and being indecent are pretty different things. I usually don't notice a woman nursing until I'm pretty near her. Lol @ katiekat!

I cut her off at 2.5. She would have gone longer, but 9 months later the thought of nursing her seems weird.

My 16 month old daughter just weaned herself a few weeks ago...I would have happily nursed her longer.

I need to clarify that I meant I agree that those people are ridiculous. I do NOT agree with those people though!

lol, I agree about people who make comments about breastfeeding just being funny and ridiculous. You know it's the same people who get uncomfortable seeing a woman breastfeeding in public, saying how "disgusting" it is. :oy:

Whoa, Anon #3....that was just disrespectful and rude. My daughter weaned around a year. We had a pretty easy time nursing during the year, and around 10 months I noticed her slowly losing interest. I would have nursed longer if she wanted to, but she was done!

I'm still nursing (he's two). I'm trying to let him lead the weaning; but, it's hard.
