Why Didn't Anybody Tell Me: Dressing For Second Pregnancy

Why Didn't Anybody Tell Me: Dressing For Second Pregnancy

My first pregnancy was all about mini dresses and skirts, but the second go-around — not so much. Aside from the fact that I still carried around five pounds of previous baby weight, as the rest of it packed on, I was constantly on the move. There was no time to style my hair or pair shoes with purses. Short apparel doesn't work when you are hoisting a 2-and-a-half-year-old up onto a play structure or sweeping her off her feet. Dry clean-only outfits weren't options anymore — unless I wanted them permanently marked with Cheerio crumbs or sticky hand prints. Pregnancy fashion is similar to everything else in motherhood, you learn as you go. I had to laugh when I caught this Cool Mom clip. Did you dress differently for subsequent pregnancies?

I'm now in my third pregnancy and I'm finding it the hardest to dress because at 8 months, nothing is fitting and with this being my last baby, I don't want to invest in any more maternity items...and I'm constantly on the run taking my children to their activities with no time for myself. And I'm dreading dressing post-baby!

For the second pregnancy I was pretty close to wearing the same pair of pants EVERY day. It wasn't pretty but everything felt like it squeezed me and made me nauseous. People were very polite and never mentioned it ;-)

I dressed pretty much the same with both pregnancies as well. The only difference is that with my second pregnancy, I didn't shop in maternity store for clothing. I wasn't going to spend a lot of money for something that will be over in 9 months. My main staple were fashionable, empire waisted tops and stretch sweaters that I mostly bought at full figure women clothing stores like Lane Bryant, Torrid, Ashley Stuart etc. I swear, my maternity wardrobe consisted of several maternity pants in basic colors (black, grey, cream) 3 denim maternity jeans and my tops.

I dressed pretty much the same with both pregnancies. Shorts, tees, leggings, jeans. Just comfortable.

No but I dress pretty casually as a given, pregnant or not. I was a little dressier with my third pregnancy simply because I was thinner than my first two and was able to find cuter stuff. It wasn't difficult, but I've never had more than one or two "dryclean only" clothing pieces anyway. I'm a wash and go girl.
