The Heartbreaking Circumstances Inspiring This 22-Year-Old to Ask People Not to Drink and Drive

To most people, drunk driving is never considered an option, but for some, making the wrong decision and getting into a car after drinking will affect them — and potentially many others — for the rest of their lives. Destiny Mantia, a 22-year-old from Missouri, became a widow and lost her 15-month-old baby boy due to a drunk driver, and she's urging people to think about their choices to help prevent anyone else from having to go through what she has been forced to due to someone else's mistake.

One year ago, Destiny and her husband, Corey, were on their way to an appointment with their son, Parker, when they were struck nearly head-on by a drunk driver. Parker died instantly, while Corey was airlifted to the hospital and passed 24 hours later. Destiny lost everything she had in the space of a day because of one person's decision: "We wouldn't get to purchase our first house together, we wouldn't get to take Parker for his first haircut, his first day at school, and our family would never grow. This would be it. Everything we would have ever known would come to an end, and not by choice."

Every year, drivers over the limit put not only themselves but other drivers and passengers on the road in danger. Destiny wants to use her tragic story to spread the word about the realities of drunk driving:

"This hurt, pain, and our future could have all been prevented if someone would have stepped up and stopped this selfish woman from drinking and driving. You can save someone's life too! Don't allow your friends and family to drink and drive. Don't share DUI checkpoints. Be an advocate! Stand up with me! Let's stop this. One is too many. DON'T DRINK AND DRIVE!"
