Woman Gives Birth In Stuck Elevator (VIDEO)

Woman Gives Birth In Stuck Elevator (VIDEO)

It seems like this week might break the record for amazing birth stories! After a New Jersey woman gave birth in a commuter's train earlier this week (Baby Fast) and a pregnant Colorado woman who'd been struck by lightening gave birth to  a healthy baby girl, a Washington state mom delivered her second baby in a hospital elevator early Wednesday. The elevator broke down on its way up to a 14th-floor birthing center.

The baby's father was able to monitor the delivery via walkie-talkie and, after elevator technicians eventually got the doors open, he climbed down into the car to cut his newborn son's umbilical cord.

The couple has nicknamed their baby Otis, for the Otis Elevator company car in which he came into the world.

When my mother was in the hospital in the early 80s, her roommate had given birth in the elevator because the baby came so fast. The nurse, hoping to make her feel better, told her not to worry because "last year a woman gave birth on the front lawn". And this poor woman said "that was me too!"
