Zebra Dinner

Mural Meal: Rice and Bean Zebra Supreme

Remember the old joke, "What's black and white and red all over?" A blushing zebra! Serve up a delightful striped meal to a zoo loving lil guy and keep him laughing for days at mama's culinary wit. All it takes is a little rice, beans, strawberries and a few blueberries to make the four-legged friend appear.

Boil some white rice and season it to your liking — I usually add a pat of butter and a dash of salt for flavor. Bring a can of black beans to a boil and add some spice if the youngster approves. While those two items get cooking, slice a few strawberries and clean off two blueberries. Once all the ingredients are lined up, form a zebra shape on the plate with the white rice. Create stripes by laying out the black beans in rows on top of the rice. Place the blueberries near the top for the animal's eyes. Using the sliced strawberries create ears. For the finale, line the plate with the remaining fruit for added decoration and nutrition.

Noway goldiecar! I do this about once a week for my daughter. It's just for fun and a special treat. She eats every other meal normally. :)

So... Do kids not eat unless you do this? I love the pretty images, but as my baby is going to be here (hopefully) in a few days, I am getting more and more scared that I'm going to have to entertain her plate daily as she gets older.

Oh my God. All hail the moms who painstakingly arrange beans on rice. My mom and I would have a much better relationship if she prepared mural meals for me as a kid.
