  • The police officer who shot and killed a black man named Keith Lamont Scott in Charlotte, NC, will not be charged, according to The New York Times. Mecklenburg County District Attorney R. Andrew Murray said that officer Brentley Vinson, who is black, "acted lawfully." The shooting gained national attention because the Mecklenburg police department claimed Scott was armed, while his wife and a witness said Scott was holding a book; a weapon was recovered from the scene, however. Scott's death sparked protests and outrage across the city, so the decision not to charge Vinson could bring even more demonstrations.
