The Major Thing Missing From Trump's Press Conference With Justin Trudeau

During Donald Trump's joint press conference with visiting Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, the president demonstrated a new tactic to avoid answering potentially difficult questions about National Security Adviser Mike Flynn: to only take questions from outlets that would skirt the situation.

A total of 6 Q's at Trump press conferences so far:
- 3 to news orgs owned by Murdoch
- 1 to Daily Caller
- 1 to Sinclair
- 1 to Reuters

Seated in the front row of the conference on Monday, Flynn has made headlines in the last week for reportedly lying about his conversations with Russian ambassador Sergey Kislyak and discussing easing America's sanctions on the former Soviet country. The Washington Post broke the story, speaking to current and former White House officials who said Flynn did, indeed, mention the sanctions.

Flynn's discussion with Kislyak allegedly occurred before Trump's inauguration, which would be illegal. According to the BBC, Flynn initially denied speaking about the sanctions, then backtracked, which in turn suggested he lied to Vice President Mike Pence about the conversation since Pence defended Flynn's call by saying the general had not discussed the sanctions. Trump has yet to answer a single question about these allegations, and he made sure he didn't have to today by only taking questions from conservative news sources like The Daily Caller that presumably would not ask him about Flynn (with the exception of one question from Reuters, a wire service).

According to pool reporters and video of the conference, a few journalists attempted to ask Trump about Flynn by shouting their questions as the two leaders left. Trump, who likely heard their questions, did not answer them.

Here's a look at how journalists responded to Trump's move on Twitter.

At 2 pressers in 4 days, Trump exclusively called on conservative news orgs that did not ask about Flynn. Reporters shouted Qs just now.

I mean, I guess no one in the WH cares that Flynn lied to the Vice President? And then had the VP lie to the press on his behalf?

But not during bilateral pressers with world leaders, where the questions typically go to wire reporters (AP, Reuters) https://t.co/svfkuMAvWo
