Ruth Bader Ginsburg Sent the Most Inspiring Note to a Little Girl Who Dressed Up as Her

Jan 15 2017 - 1:40pm

Tasked with dressing up for her school's superhero-themed day, 8-year-old Michele decided to go as Ruth Bader Ginsburg. According to her mom, Michele had just finished reading I Dissent, a children's book about the Supreme Court justice, and was feeling particularly inspired by her legacy.

Michele's mom, Krista Threefoot, took to Facebook in December to share a picture of her daughter's inspired costume [1]. In her caption, Krista wrote, "Michele has been reading the heck out of I Dissent and decided to dress as Ruth Bader Ginsburg, because she fights prejudice and injustice."

As the photo continued to pick up steam online — it currently has over 1,000 shares — it ended up reaching the justice herself. Shortly after it went viral, Michele received a handwritten note from RBG, as well as a touching quote that applies to us all.

The handwritten letter read, "You look just like me! May you continue to thrive on reading and learning." On a separate sheet, the justice shared another important piece of advice. She wrote, "Reading is the key that opens doors to many good things in life. Reading shaped my dreams, and more reading helped me make my dreams come true." You can see pictures of the letters, as well as Michele reading them, in the Facebook post below.

Apparently people want to see the letter from Justice Ginsburg? Here are a few pics with some much better ones from the talented Jody Schumacher McKinley to come.
