Andy Rooney's Take on Westminster

Andy Rooney's Take on Westminster

Andy Rooney is usually too grumpy for my taste, but I got a kick out of his report on the 132nd Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show, which aired as part of last night's 60 Minutes. Apparently Rooney attends the event every year and claims he's "never met a bad dog at the show," even though he can't always identify the breeds. I couldn't help but giggle at the visual of him checking out the cute doggies. Or maybe it was just the juxtaposition of a grumpy old man next to pretty pups. Either way, watch the video for a sneak peek at some of the dogs that didn't make it into the winning rounds. What do you think of dog show handlers?

I loved caterpillargirl's rant. I totally agree, but perhaps not as passionately.

Good god! When Andy got done rattling off the half dozen things he does each year, I was just grateful he DIDN'T say get layed! ;) LOVED the Neopolitan Mastiff!!! That's one breed you'd want to keep away from the leaf blower!

Not all handlers are like that, of course. Some of them are just there to enjoy themselves and because they love the dogs. ;) Actually, that film "Best in Show" was pretty spot-on. lol

Wow, thats a whole lotta anger, Caterpillargirl. LOL I think this year's show was pretty amazing. Im so impressed and still surprised that a Beagle took it, but that dog was full of energy and had a great disposition, how could it not have won? Im enjoying how the Westminster folks are getting into thinking outside the box - especially when they gave the win to Rufus the bull terrier who is one of the most amazing dogs Ive ever known. As for the handlers - Ive been around many of them and they are an interesting breed. Highly competitive and intense. Total fanatics, but then - arent we all when it comes to the pets we own or work with?

I Hate andy rooney, and by hate i mean I loathe the ancient hypocritical boring useless irrelevant walking corpse that used to be a sorta funny end to a seriously horrible show. He is only on there still because they feel sorry for him, and because there are still about 10 80 year olds still watching the show that would flood the network with snail mail "how dare you get rid of andy rooney, your ageist, he is a legend!!" I dont watch 60 minutes, but sometimes while flipping through i will catch the end of it, and of course there sits the impossible white, liver spotted, Bushy eyebrowed curmudgeon spouting off about god knows what, and everytime i just listen and shake my head and say " what the F is he talking about? does he even leave that office? i hope the entire bookshelf falls on him" Can you tell I cant stand him?
