Been "Gifted" by a Pet?

Been "Gifted" by a Pet?

I still remember being at a childhood friend's house in the country when her cat brought in a dead mouse and placed it at her little brother's feet. Because I must have been about six or seven at the time, I remember screaming and jumping on the couch, and recall the whole thing to be a tad traumatic. Now, flash forward many years later as I got a call tonight from a high school friend to tell me (as PetSugar) that her indoor/outdoor cat brought in a Koi from her pond and left it on her back stoop . . . she was a bit freaked out, shocked at the cat's ability and sudden hunting desire, but still handling herself rather well. I tried to offer moral support as she went through her options to (a) call her boyfriend; (b) close her eyes and remove it herself; or (c) ignore it and hope kitty decides to become doglike and digs a hole outside. We decided on the first option and she just called back to tell me that the situation has been taken care of. Now, North is likely too greedy to present anything to me, but I want to hear what your (insert pet here) brought in!

My dog found a dead cat in our field that had been run over by a tractor. Poor dead cat was then brought to our yard and our dog tried to get everyone to play with her. My dad had to lock her in the house and go bury the cat at the back of the farm so she wouldn't dig it up again. My kitties aren't allowed outside, so they just bring me their toys.

My cat is a little brain damaged (traumatic kitten story), so his hunting skills are more amusing than frightening (he chirps at the wildlife before chasing it - sorta gives them the headstart!). But he does love to bring me his own kind of "kills." His favorite are those big iris leaves (which he shakes around like they are fish), and small branches with leaves or flowers still attached. He looks so proud when he sets his latest find on the carpet, like he just took down an antelope. :)

Ha, ha, PrincessTracy! My dog leaves those kinds of gifts, too. My cat, however, prefers to bring lizards, mice, and squirrels to the back door.

The only "gifts" we get Sadie makes all by herself and leaves around the house.

So many things. My cat brought me a whole bird one time. She thoughtfully killed it by trapping it under my desk and then leaving it in front of my bedroom door. It was a lot of fun cleaning up blood and feathers from under my desk! Our outside cats also will bring us lizards and mice and once a rabbit. They are very skilled hunters!

I had a indoor/outdoor cat once and he brought me a horrible gift. I opened the door for him and picked him up. I noticed that he had, what appeared to be, a chainlink in his mouth. As I went to pull it out I realized that it was a live garden snake that was all twisted up. That was so gross. I couldn't help it, but I threw him back out the house and closed the door. Luckily he came back soon without it, and he was okay.

When I was in college, I woke up face-to-face with my hamster Budgie....Not only was she dead, but she was strategically placed on my pillow so that she was the first thing I saw when I opened my eyes...all thanks to my cat Catalina...RIP Budgie

My mom once put her foot into her slipper and felt something in it. She put her hand in to pull out what she expected to be a sock, and got a mouse instead. I have never heard her scream so loud before. It makes me laugh everytime I think about it. I once came home from school one day to find that Smokey had caught a bird and played with it inside the house. There were feathers EVERYWHERE. Since I was a lazy teenager I didn't want to clean the mess up so I decided to pretend I never saw it. I went to the mall instead and didn't head home until I knew my mom got there first. When I got home, my mom had told me about how Smokey must have had a blast playing with her new bird toy. I acted surprised and astonished all evening long. It wasn't until I was much older and not living at home that I confessed. :)

when i was little, our cat brought a dead bird to our screen door and banged it up against the door til we went to let it in. i freaked out a little, it was quite traumatic. our two dogs now don't though, excepting our shih tzu will bring his toys over to you. our lab always tries to catch bunnies but in 10 years she's never managed to catch one lol. i'm glad for the bunnies' sake, but it's kind of pathetic hahaha.

When my bf's apartment was having a bad mice infestation, Fuji caught one, killed it and brought the lifeless mouse to the beau. Thank g-d, I wasn't there for this. We found out that for a shih tzu, Fuji was very good at catching mice.

Hahaha you think thats bad? I was reading an article this morning, about a dog whose best friend was a cat. The cat died and the people buried him out back. The dog missed him so much he dug him up cleaned him and put him in his basket and fell asleep next to him. Heartbeaking. http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/news/uk/article3162659.ece

Whenever I'm glum, Maximus will bring me one of his chew toys. I think he thinks that if I chew it, it'll make me feel better.

Yup, I just got my first one not too long ago :( My one year old mutt brought us a SQUIRREL one morning. Its even worse tho, cos I happen to adore squirrels and know or recognize most of the ones that live on our back yard :( I mean she might as well have killed our other dog and brought it to us, it was almost that traumatic!

Thankfully, my cat doesn't kill anything (she's kind of a diva), but when I was laid up with mono, she would bring her toys to my bed and lay them beside me. I don't think she was really being "giving" so much as bored and wanting me to play with her. But it was cute, anyway.

BATS!

Holy cow. Growing up we lived in a wooded area and had indoor/outdoor cats. My parents had also installed a cat door so they could come and go as they pleased. The problem was, so did their presents. We've found a squirrel, birds, snakes, 2 bats, mice, moles, voles, and once even a ferret! And for some reason, the larger animals always came in alive (except for the squirrel, he came in dead and was left under the sofa...we didn't know he was there until he started to smell - disgusting!)! My dad also had a rule that if it came into the house alive, we were to try everything in our power to make sure it went back out alive. So imagine my dad, in the dark, under my brother's loft bed trying to catch a bat. Oddly enough, the bat went back outside alive, and my brother never woke up. My cat in my urban apartment now doesn't go outside, but the one time she did manage to find, catch and kill a mouse, the brought it right to me. She's always bringing me her toys, too. All I have to do is acknowledge her, then she's happy.

The oldest cat at my parents used to bring me dead baby bunny rabbits she would hunt down when I lived there. I felt so bad, but at the same time I couldn't get mad!
