Do Tell: What Is Your Pet's Zaniest Fear?

Do Tell: What Is Your Pet's Zaniest Fear?

I can't help but giggle as the lil smooshy seems determined to launch a sneak attack on this unsuspecting flutterer . . . if Paul could just get over his fear of the beautiful big, bad butterfly that is. Now North only walks all the way around grates on the sidewalks and jumps over puddles but, if it moves, my brat is determined to catch it. What about your pets? I'd love to hear your animals' fears and phobias below – the sillier the better!

One of my Bostons, Bruno, is terrified of the tv remote. This was an accidentally aquired fear, I will explain. My mother had the remote in hand one day and Bruno was sitting on her laundry, she tried to shoo him off while the remote was in her hand and made a "bzzzzzt" sound and he jumped off of the couch. Apparently, he is now very frightened of the remote because he thinks it's going to make that buzzing sound. I'm not sure what kind of threat it poses to him. Anything that resembles a remote, like a cell phone or mp3 player, makes him nervous if it were to be pointed at him for some reason. I'm quite convinced he's a bit of a goofball, kind of off, if you know what I mean. But he's my special boy. His brother, on the other hand, just doesn't care.

Charlie is afraid of his reflection...it cracks me up every time!

My Mom's english bulldog Muldoon (RIP) was completely petrified of open umbrellas...only opened ones, not closed! He would back into the corner of the room furthest away from the terrifying umbrella and bark at it until we take it into another room. Her other bulldog Petunia (AKA Tuna) AND her yellow lab Cooper hate tin foil...I don't know if its the shinyness, the noise it makes, or what, but they will not be in the same room as tin foil! My boyfriend's mom's teacup pomeranian Keesha is terrified of people wearing hats, and won't go near anyone unless they take their hat off. Dogs are scared of weird things :P

My cat domino (RIP)was terrified of plastic bags, my dad and I were pretty sure it had something to do with the fact that we bought her from a woman outside of a Safeway, and she was traumatized from having to leave her mama too soon! I miss her :(

Scout runs anytime we bring a camera out, that now includes our cell phones cause she realized they take pictures also. She is afraid of her own farts, she gets up and runs away and then she turns around and sniffs her butt, then she can't go in the same spot where she just farted. The air vents are also way too scary, the vacuum, I'm sure there is more I can't think of right now.

My dog Zero is afraid of the grates on the sidewalk too! And manhole covers, and mud puddles, and fire hydrants. Yes, fire hydrants... the first time he ever sniffed one he totally freaked out and now he won't go near them. He's also afraid of sprinklers cause he hates water. Giving him a bath is a nightmare!

Buttons (8 yr old cat) is afraid of plastic shopping bags, but only the cheap ones from the grocery store. I am sure its not unusual, but his was caused by a traumatic encounter. He used to like to sleep on them, but one day while getting cozy, he got the loop around the neck, got spooked and tried to run away from it. For 10 min he frantically ran through the house trying to escape the beast. At the time we were worried he would accidentally strangle himself, so we chased him through the house. I am sure that didnt make it any better, but what else could we do? Now, we laugh hysterically at it though.

our little dog is only really scared of thunder and the stairs going down to our basement (does the stairs going to our second floor just fine though.) our big lab/rottweiler mix is a bada** in our house/yard but is a complete weeny anywhere else. i took her to the vet last year and was letting her sniff their landscaping and a chipmonk (or something similar) jumped out of the ground and i swear to god, my 100 lb dog jumped a foot in the air and ran behind me, whimpering. she also switches to the other side of me when she hears dogs bark at us on walks. total chicken.

My dog Sara is scared of absolutely nothing... except flies! If there is a fly in the room (common in summer in LA) she will freak out and hide. I believe this is because one time she caught one in her mouth, and it buzzed around, and she spit it out in disgust. My other dog Megan is a rescue and scared of lots of weird noises (cell phones beeping, sprinklers, fireworks, etc) but doesn't understand why Sara hates flies so much...

Oliver is also afraid of big, fluffy snowflakes. I held him up to the window during our first snowstorm together thinking that he would have a blast looking at the things. Instead, he ran into the bathroom, jumped into the tub, and hid behind the shower curtain and the liner. He's a special kind of retarded. ;)

Max is afraid of manhole covers, he goes way out of his way to walk around them. Sometimes he runs into people, because of his elaborate avoidance of these frightening covers.

My Boston is afraid of bicycles. If he sees one on the street he starts barking viciously at it. It's really kind of embarassing.

Oliver, my 13 lb. Carpet Monster of a Persian cat, is afraid of spiders. A small black variety once ran across one of his back paws. He shot three feet into the air, landed with his copper-colored eyes bulged wide open, and promptly squashed it dead. He then spent the next 20 minutes spot-welded to my leg, shivering the whole time!

Raja can only run up the LEFT side of the stairs. She has to have her body pressing up against the wall. One time she was down there and we had the left side blocked at the bottom with a ladder and she cried and cried until we moved it and then she ran up the stairs.

Hugo is afraid of the laundry(maybe it's just the snapping sound the laundry makes when Mom's folding it) and Hank is afraid of his brush. However, he thinks the vacuum is mocking him so he chases and barks at it. Silly boys!

Roxy is afraid of everything, plastic bags, the broom, the laundry basket, clothes (she hides under the bed when I fold laundry) and she is terrified of the vacuum. We adopted her and we think the family who had her before us must have teased her with all those things. The funniest/saddest thing is that when she's sitting in the backseat of my car she'll see an SUV or bus and "chill" on the floor between my seat and the backseat bench until it's gone.

My cockapoo is terrified of my cell phone camera. It makes a shutter click noise whenever I take a photo that just annoys the crap out of her. She lives at home with my parents and when I was home I wanted to take some pictures of her with it and she freaked out after the first one. I ended up crawling around the coffee table for about 5 minutes trying to get a shot of her and ended up giving up when she went and hid behind our golden retriever Doodle.

My poodle is afraid of the usual suspects: vacuum cleaner, lawn mower - anything loud or unusual. My mother's poodle is afraid of children, and some women, because she's not around them very much.
