Do Your Pets Swim?

Although North loves our trips to Baker Beach, he's not too into the waves. I don't have a surfing smooshy like this one, but my loyal pooch will still follow me if I want to dip my toes in . . . you better believe once the tide comes in, North tries to outrun that chilly ocean! Do your pets like to dive in, either to freshwater or manmade pools?

My friend's pug Romo loves to swim. Everytime they go to her parents house he jumps right in the pool and you can't get him out. She bought him a little life jacket for dogs but when she puts it on him he won't get into the water, he won't even moved when it is on. Pretty funny

B-Bop HATES the water. When he was a baby he dived in the pool after us and swam to us. So we thought he's a water doggy. Nope never again. Hates the pool, hates lakes, hates the ocean. So I stopped trying to coax him in. He loves the beach though.

My Golden Retriever loved to play fetch in the river and play around. Tennis balls + water = heaven

Big Hungry Joe loves to swim! He has these big, webbed paws (I'm not kidding!) that make a bee-line for the water when we take him to the pond. He swims in the ocean, too, regardless of how rough the surf is. We keep a close eye on him when he's in the water, though, in case he swims into trouble. :pepino:

My old dog Mac would swim in our pool any chance he got. Often times he would climb on a raft and float all day. We no longer have a pool for Bexley BUT he loves lakes or any other type of water.

Polka is a huge fan of water!! It's really hard for me to keep her away from swimming when she sees some! ;) I love to see her having fun in the sea or in a pool and I have to say that it's a great moment for me too to go swimming and playin with her in the water! ;)

Nope, bulldogs sink like a rock. They like to get a bath, but they aren't allowed to swim in anything above their knees.

My Shepherd mix is not too thrilled with the water. We took him to the Shenandoah to hike and swim. He loves to climb the mountains, but when it came to crossing the river, he walked in up to his shoulders and froze. He did not know what to do! His a pretty big scaredy baby.

A "beeline" to the water is exactly how I would put it. My boys know where all the ponds, rivers, lakes, and pools are and whenever we go to one as soon as we let them off leash they head straight for them. We literally don't see the boys again until we catch up with them splashing and playing in the water. Its quite cute actually!

My beagle's terrified of water. She's very good and stays very still when I'm bathing her. But she stays far away from the pool and the waves at the beach.

Axle and Newton are both pretty choosie about what water they will go in. If you just let them be, they usually will go in until their chests hit the water.

One of my puggles likes to swim the other does not like too and she can't swim! I got her from a pug rescue last year so I didn't have her as a puppy like my other one and it might have been her first time in the water. She has a doggie vest though but still! People always think that all dogs can swim!

Nothing can stop my puggle from swimming laps in the pool. He was a bit hesitant at first, but we walked him in and spent some time with him to get used to it... he loves playing fetch, so we incorporated that with swimming to make it go smoother. My dog goes to summer camp every day (my husband runs a camp for kids) and he spends at least an hour in the pool swimming around!

my sheltie likes to wade and will go into the bay if a good enough stick is tossed out there. my aussies loves to swim if she has a buddy and will jump in and begin a furious doggie paddle to stay afloat. as a pup she didn't care for the water too much - we used to put her in our pool but she'd make a bee-line for the stairs. as a 2 year old she can't get enough of the water but prefers lakes to the chlorinated pool.

Unlike his litter mate, who died earlier this year, Ollie is just about terrified of water. I've had him since he was 4 weeks old and have always acted calm and casual around water, but he freaks when I fill his dish or wash my hands! He tucks his tail, does a couple of spins, looks at me like I'm crazy and hides under the dining table. It's too bad- I'm sure a kiddie pool during the summer would cool him off since he loves to spend all day outside.
