Pittsburgh Police Honor Fallen K-9 Unit After He's Stabbed and Killed

In a brutal fight between police and two civilians last week in Pennsylvania, K-9 unit Aren was stabbed by a suspect and eventually died from his injuries. He was carried out of the vet clinic where he died, covered in the American flag, and placed into his partner's cruiser for his final ride.

Aren was a 5-year-old German Shepherd originally from the Czech Republic that came to Pittsburgh when he was about a year old. He was a four-year veteran of the police force and served with Port Authority Police Officer Brian O'Malley.

"It's a horrible thing. He's a member of that officer's family. He's a member of the law enforcement family," said Chief Matt Porter with Port Authority Police to CBS Pittsburgh.

Hundreds of law enforcement officers gathered to memorialize Aren in Pittsburgh. During the service Porter said, "Aren was fluent in three languages — the first being German, the second being English, and the third being 'Brian,'" speaking of Aren's partner.

Watch the video above to see Aren being honored by his fellow officers, and have a tissue handy — it's a very touching moment.
