How Do You Feel About Animals in Outfits?

Kelly O looked impossibly adorable braving the cold with her pug in London over the weekend. I'm not usually one for dressing up pets (other than special circumstances, obvs), but it looks like the little fawn baby needs her hoodie because it's so yucky out! Being a pug owner and a general pet person myself, this can't help but get me excited for PetSugar, coming later this month! Until then do tell — how do you feel about dressing animals up in outfits?

I have tried to dress my two poodles and they do not like it. I think it is so cute, but not for my doggies. Dang it!

The only time when it's ok to dress up a dog is when it's for practical purposes. So, a sled dog with booites on or something like that.Other than that, they were made to survive without clothing, so we shouldn't torture them.

Well, it IS kind of self-centered. How can we tell if THEY care what they look like? It's just us that do.

It's true, animals aren't children--they are MUCH better. I'd take a dog or a cat over a child any day. :) Some cats and dogs enjoy clothes, and some don't. I think their feelings and preferences should always be taken into account, and should NEVER be made to feel uncomfortable for the sake of the human. So if it's a little shirt that the dog/cat doesn't mind, then sure. If it's a scratchy wool sweater you think is cute but the animal hates, no. The bottom line is that that dog/cat is comfortable--looking adorable is a bonus. :)

We dress our dog, but the thing is, she likes it. She really gets excited when we pull out her shirts and she gets mad when we try to take them off. If she hated it, we wouldn't do it.

It's just stupid. Get a baby if you want to clothe someone.

i don't think it's cool to dress up animals in ridiculous tutu outfits. it's not natural, and i'm pretty sure they prefer not having anything constraining them, even if it is technically considered 'comfortable' material by us humans.however, i also know that some animals, especially those with little fur might need an extra layer for harsh weather.when i adoped my jack russel puppy in the winter i saw how shaking and cold he would get (i live in toronto, canada) so my roommate and i had to get him a plain blackrain-proof 'coat' of sorts. nothing fancy or ridiculous, but warm to keep him at ease.

Well said Allytta! If you live in a cold place, don't buy a dog that can't stand the cold! THAT's cruel! Use your brain when purchasing an animal. And don't use your dog as an extension of your personality - it's meant to be a companion not a toy. Lindsaybriggs - Have YOU interviewed all the dogs to make sure they LIKE it? Didn't think so. As far as I can tell from this post alone, dogs hate being dressed up. "If you don't like dog clothes, don't make your dog wear them!" Exactly - MAKE your dog wear them, they have no say at all. ufshutterbabe - lose the plot of a post much? No one's talking about beating dogs. The question was how we feel about dressing them up in clothes and one of the multiple choice answers actually stated that it was 'mean', hence the "cruelty" posts. It's definitely cruel. That's what they have FUR for. And I have owned small and large dogs and the small dog had fur too so being 'small' is no excuse. People treat animals like goddamned puppets or some kind of accessory. How would you like it if someone dressed you in a full fur coat all the time? I think a) you'd be pissed off because you're wearing something that goes against everything you believe in; and b) you'd be freakin hot and uncomfortable! IT'S AN ANIMAL. Treat it like one.

I voted no, but not because I think it's cruel. I just don't see the point.

I think it's adorable but we only do it during the winter or to take a few pictures.
