This Is What It Looks Like When a Kitty Just Wants to Play With His Puppy Friend

How Many Times a Day Do You Feed a Pet?

Even though many vets recommend that growing puppies eat three times a day, by adulthood, some choose to feed a dog once a day and some kitty owners leave just one meal out all day long. Regardless of how often dinner (or breakfast or lunch) time comes at your home, make sure you follow the directions on the bag – it usually lists portions based on daily servings. Divide accordingly for multiple meals (and don't forget to factor in the treats, too). What's this process like at your house?

we leave the dry food in his bowl all day and if he's hungry he'll eat it. we also give him 1 small treat (he loves chicken chips or the chicken carver chips which we cut up because he's small) and sometime's we'll give him a few scraps of either plain chicken or rice or pasta. he also loves cheese. so really it all depends.

Zena gets 2 1/2 cups of food a day. Normally, we give it to her once a day. She also gets a chew to help with icky plaque and a few table scraps (3 pieces, that's it). When she goes to bed, she gets a Canine Chewy treat that takes her all of two bites to polish. She doesn't go hungry...ever. XD She's insanely spoiled.

I leave dry food out for Merlot, my kitty, all day. She gets treats too and wet food every once in a while, but I think I'm going to give her more wet food because I don't think she's getting enough calories. She doesn't have worms, but she's still very thin. Viva our puppy gets 2 meals of puppy chow and treats throughout the day. We also half fill an empty plastic bottle with puppy food for her to play with if she shows interest in eating more. She's a short legged dog and I read that they can have weight issues that could be bad for her little legs.

Depends. My 40 lbs mix get 1 cup dry in the morning and a can at night. My bf's choc. lab get 2 cups diet food morning and 2 cups at night. Go by the dog's ideal weight and caloric need. You can figure this out by talking to your vet or searching online. A good site is to tell you calories in food for dogs and cats. My sister had two cats that were ideal weight but her new husband had three overweight cats. The three overweight ones had "grazed," but when my sister moved in they went on her healthy cats' diet. The FIVE cats get ONE can split between five of them THREE times a day. 1/5 each at 9am, 1/5 each at 5pm, 1/5 each at 10pm with a handful of dry food. So in total, they get 3/5 a can each. This way they eat and burn off calories. Eat and burn off calories. So it is a good healthy amount given throughout the day. It promotes normal cat behavior of kill the food and eat immediately then burn it off until the next meal. I find it a great way to feed them though it takes more commitment to keeping a schedule with them. Hope this helps anyone with overweight kittahs.

DON'T follow the directions on the bag. You and your vet should decide together how much food to feed your pet based on their size, age, and activity level. I feed my dogs dry food twice a day, and I mix up what kind of wet food or meat and veggies I mix in so that they get a variety of flavors and nutrients.

Both dogs are fed twice a day. Once in the morning, after their morning jog and once in the evening, after we've finished supper.

I free feed. I've got one cat who is always bordering on being way too skinny, so I want her to have as much access to food as possible. The other one only eats when he's hungry, so it's not a problem at all.

I feed the boys when I go home at lunch and that stays out until its finished. They also get lots of biscuits and once a week I usually give them wet dog food and I split 1 container between the 2 of them. xo

Oliver Katt always has a bowl of dry kibble available. For wet food, I let him tell me when he wants to be fed, which is several times per day. (He eats very small amounts per feeding.) Oliver has PKD, so the wet food is actually better for him as it keeps his kidneys flushed.

We just leave a bowl of food out for Roxy all day, but it's werid, she'll really only eat when my husband and I sit down to eat our dinner. She'll take a few pieces of dry food in her mouth, walk to the stairs, kind of spit them out, and eat one at a time. This goes on until we're done eating our dinner. She's so weird.

There's no worries about my cat overeating so hers stays out all day. My dogs get fed in the morning and then in the evening. My Thor lives to eat while my Sasha eats to live - Thor'd eat his and hers if I left it out all day.

We leave food out for Charlie all the time. He actually eats in the morning after he wakes up, a little bit in the middle of the day and right before he goes to bed.

Combination of feeding times and grazing. I only fill her bowl 2 times a day, but it takes her hours to get around to finishing it. Around mid-day I give her a sweet potato chew.
