Including a Pet in Your Wedding Ceremony?

Padding Down the Aisle?

Now I may not be ready for marriage anytime soon, but the one thing I am sure of is that little North will play some part in the wedding whenever it is! He already is an "American Gentleman," and all he really needs is a bow-tie collar and poof... insta-suit! I know that including pets in ceremonies can be a controversial choice; it seems like family, friends, venue directors, and even your spouse-to-be will have some opinion on the matter – but I'd only like to hear from you!

What's your take on pets at weddings? Did you (or would you) bring Fido and/or Fluffy along... or do/did you feel like your pet's place was at home?

Teensy little pocket dogs would be really cute but for those of us that have bigger dogs not so cute. I have a pitbull cross and an akita cross and they are still fairly young so no way. As much as I love my pets they don't understand the significance of the day and they would be frustrated not being able to run around freely so it wouldn't be fair to them. This is all moot any way as I am not having a wedding anytime soon.

Not only was our dog in our wedding but she comes to most of the weddings we are invited to. She is a great distraction for kids at the reception.

I'm with you Renee3. Cuba will be in my wedding as the ring bearer with my nephew. I have seen far tackier things at weddings than a dog trotting down the aisle. One of my friends did with her dog and it was the best part of the ceremony that and no kids!

Yea, I don't think I would bring mine. I want to enjoy myself and constantly worrying about the puppy would be a huge hassle. And my dog is a Beagle so she would eat everything.

I know some people think it's tacky, but I would do it. Also it's not like my dog would be bored. The wedding I went to that had a dog in it was the perfect entertainement for all the kids of the wedding. He Loved the attentions. Kids are always bored at weddings, so it's nice to have something there. B-Bop would love to be there, just because he wants to be wherever I am. And as for it being tacky, so what. It's my damn wedding, I will have whatever I want, I could care less what other people think. I hate when people talk crap about someone elses wedding, especially for a small thing like having thei pet involved. This is their special day, all done to how they want it, who are you to say what's good and not?

With our pack, it would be more of a carnival than a ceremony. No way. I want to be saying "I do" not "Coco down! Telah sit! Raven, stop eating the flowers, Max, stop scratching! We can hear your balls clapping together over the music!!!"

we were gonna put our female dog in the wedding to walk with our little girl but then we changed the venue to in doors. But we bought a dress and she was in the before pictures..

I think it's a really cute idea as long as your pet can handle it!

Um, I'm actually ordering this tuxedo bandanna for my dog Charlie to wear in honor of his Aunt's upcoming wedding. While he won't be in the actual ceremony (he's an Airedale, so calm and behaved really isn't likely for him), he'll be hanging out around the rehearsal dinner and showing off his duds.

All four of my yorkies will be in my wedding, as will my golden/pit mix. My two little girls will be flower girls with my niece and my little boys will be ring bearer helpers with my nephew(s). My big boy....not sure what he'll be or do, but he's definately being in it!!!

I would have loved to have Heidi in our wedding and she would've been great but I think it definately depends on your pet's temperment.

We had our dog for 13 years (she was my mother's seeing eye dog that moved in with my now husband and I when she could no longer work with my mom). We put a bandana with our wedding colors on her and she kinda just hung around at the ceremony behind us in the gazebo. Since we put her down recently, we love having her in some of the pictures. She was part of our family and we couldn't imagine the day without her. She did not, however, come to the reception (though my mother's current seeing eye dog did!)

I think having a pet at a wedding is one of the tackiest mistakes a bride can make! And really how much fun is a cat or dog really having? Just my opinion but my cat would be much happier at home sleeping!!!

I think my dog would be completely overwhelmed at my wedding. Plus, I'm sure we'd be too wrapped up in what was going on to care for her properly. She'd be scared and lonely, and that's not fair to put her through.

I would definitely bring Gizmo. Squash isn't as keen on going places, so I might leave her at home. But Gizmo has a tuxedo and a top hat so he'd fit right in! I was so close to bringing him to my college graduation in his own little cap and gown, but it turned out to be way too hot that day, so I chose to leave him home.

When my cousin's fiance insisted that her little pomeranian walk down the aisle with the ring bearer we all giggled and thought it was pretty silly. However, now that I've got a little pup of my own that my boyfriend and I adore, I think that we would both have a second thought about it when planning our wedding...

The main reason the cats weren't at the wedding was that, being cats, they're really much happier staying home by themselves than going someplace with us. If we'd had the wedding at home, then we would have allowed them to wander like normal. If we'd had a dog, we would have at least considered having it "attend" the wedding, though I doubt we would have had it "participate".
