Pampered Pals: Doggies Stylin' Car Seat

Pampered Pals: Doggies Stylin' Car Seat

North in Car Seat North spent all of his early life in New York City, accompanying me legally (and quasi-legally) on many adventures in one of his seven dog bags. We traveled on buses, subways, ferries, and airplanes but, for nearly four years, his only car experience involved taxicabs. When we moved to California last August and got a car, I invested in a monogrammed car pet seat from Brookstone (from $89.95). Not only is he secure and able to see out the window, I feel better knowing that he can’t get his claws into my leather interior. Secured with a seatbelt behind the passenger seat keeps him safe from front seat airbags, and makes mischief checks easy. The seat comes with a pull-out drawer perfect to stash adventure essentials (like his leash, dog waste bags, antibacterial hand gel, emergency food/treat supply, portable bowls, and a bottle of water). Car seats come in two sizes for dogs up to 30 pounds; if your dog is larger consider a harness and car seat cover instead. Now that we have this seat, North can safely come along on all my adventures and peek-and-greet at new friends from afar!

I have this carseat too, but the super big size (it actually comes in 3 sizes) the one I have is big enough for both my dogs its a "double wide" I have a 16 lb dog and a 22 lb dog and they have plenty of space in it. Its directly behind the drivers seat b/c the baby's car seat is on the other side.....with 2 dogs, baby and hubby my car's got room for nothing else!!

barkley has one! it may look silly to some people but honestly, its a necessity! if barkley wasn't strapped in and i had to slam on my brakes or even worse got in an accident, he would go FLYING :( he loves it too, he props his little head on the back of the seat and watches out the window :)

we definitely have two of these ;o) They are perfect for our two little Frenchies -- helps them see out the window and stops them from sliding around in the back seat. Mainly they just sack out and take naps during our car trips.

This is cool! I was just talking to my hubby about this the other day. I want our puppy to be safe while we're traveling. Thanks!

this is a great idea - soft and comfy and secure! i dont' think the price is too much for your peace of mind and knowing you won't get fur/claw marks on your seats.

This only would work for a small dog - not my Miss Mahala - a 37lb springer

If I had a smaller dog, I'd have to have one of these!!!

I think pet carseats are a good idea. I think it's super-cute when they are roaming free and sticking their adorable heads out, but it's very unsafe. If there was an accident, the dog will most likely die. At least with a car seat, they have a chance.

I have two suede carseats for my guys! I got our first one for my first yorkie 6 years ago and LOVE the things! My lab even has his own seatbelt for the car so he too can enjoy ride in the bug with the top down. I can't imagine life without the seatbelt and the carseats. The dogs love it, I love it, we're all happy!

well that's better then people letting their dogs sit on their laps while they are driving. We bought a seatbelt for my labrador to teach her to stay in one place.

PJ PJ PJ: Yes mabey so, but my dog don't do things he don't like. I had do do the anesthetize to castrate him three times, because he just didn't want to "go to sleep" by the vet. And hes a small dog. The vet didn't know what do to anymore with him. When it wasn't something like that it would have been funny to see how wilful an Dog can be. So i don't think my dog would stay in there. He would find a way out. Hes just like that. *shrug*

I bought harnesses for my dogs and buckled them in but my little beagle, Sonny, chewed through the seatbelt! I like the one in this post but my dogs would never stay in it!!!!! I'm going to try the harness route again, but maybe I can get a longer one so they aren't stuck in one position. :)

Every dog owner needs a harness or a carseat of some sort if the put their dog in the car. I was recently in a horrible car accident with my dog unsecured in the front seat. She flew around, it was terrifying. Luckily she was ok but i havent driven her since withouth her harness. I had one at the tim eof the accident, i just wasnt using it.

Good one. But I'm with chanceleta... I'm thinking about getting a lab and I don't know if that would work!

That's genius. I don't think my dog would stay in it though. She tends to roam the car.
