PetSugar: When did you get your dog and what is her breed?
samshrew: We found Sushi from a newspaper ad. She came from a litter of seven. She is 1/2 Corgi and half American Eskimo. She was born on April of 2008 and we picked her up in June of 2008.
PetSugar: What's your daily doggie routine?
samshrew: Sushi's owner had named her "Lazy" and the name is apt. She spends large portions of everyday sleeping and will generally not get out of bed in the morning until you tell her to. Sushi receives 2-3 walks per day. We have a dog walker that comes during the weekdays to walk her around mid-day. When she is not being walked Sushi goes from room to room sleeping and waiting for someone to give her a snack. Typically we spend a part of the evening playing with her and teaching her new tricks. (She recently FINALLY learned "roll over").
For Sushi's favorite foods and samshrew's favorite moments with the pup,
PetSugar: What's Sushi's favorite food, pastime, and treat?
samshrew: Sushi's favorite food is difficult to narrow down. For a long time we were strict about not feeding her people food but over time her overwhelming cuteness broke us and we, from time to time, will give her bits and scraps of various foods such as small pieces of meat, peas, carrots, rice, peanut butter, sandwich turkey, and cheese. I would say that currently her favorite food is Pepperidge Farms Goldfish. Once you pull one out of the bag she will come running from across the apartment and jump right into your lap looking for the snack. Aside from food Sushi's other love is with grass. Anytime we find a large patch of grass or a park Sushi has to run around and burrow her face into the grass like her life depends on it. It is one of the silliest things I have ever seen. It is actually easier to narrow down what Sushi does not like. She is quite the diva in many regards. She won't drink the non-potable water that is typically available at parks. She will play with a blueberry UNTIL you break the skin and squash it a little bit...and then she will eat it. She likes orange pips and Chris discovered that she will drink beer.
PetSugar: What was your all-time favorite moment with Sushi?
samshrew: The funniest thing that Chris and I can remember is when Sushi was still only a few months old. Like most puppies they will do weird things simply because they do not know any better. Sushi was one of those puppies that would chase her tail...a sight that is amusing enough. But Sushi is also a uniquely shaped dog and is so long that she could catch her tail eventually. So it was that on a few occasions we witnessed the dog begin to circle herself and then finally catch a mouthful of tail in her mouth like some animated ouroboros. She would manage to stop spinning and would then attempt to walk (presumably forward) whilst her upper body was curved around and clinging to her tail. She would manage a few steps before falling over
PetSugar: Anything else we should know about your Sushi?
samshrew: For some reason Sushi is really interested in anything that is bright blue. She rarely pays any attention to what is on the television but during a viewing of the film, Watchmen, she became very alert and simply stared at the screen anytime that the radiant "Dr. Manhattan" was on screen. This was the first time we noticed her fascination with blue characters but she has shown similar interest to films or images with strong amounts of blue. Sadly, we cannot bear to ever watch, Avatar, again so we will have to wait until the Smurfs movie to see how she reacts. She also tends to respond/pay attention to deep gravelly voices not unlike Chris'. So apparently she likes George Carlin, Tom Waits, and Mickey Rourke.
