I would love to see stories about getting animals proper nutrition. My guess is that things like that haven't been featured because they'd send more people running and screaming from the major brands that you'd probably like to have as advertisers, but some interesting info about how to read a label would be awesome. For example, the rules about labeling. "Beef for dogs" would have to contain 95% beef (not counting water for processing) or 70% beef counting the water. But if they call it "Beef Dinner for dogs," the word dinner means it only has to be 25% beef. Also, the ingredients have to be listed in order, but a meat meal (chicken meal, or what-have-you) further down the list may actually mean there is more meat in the product than a food that lists a meat as its first ingredient, because meal is dry but meat is about 75% water, so after cooking the actual meat content goes down. I could go on about Guaranteed Analysis or why corn and avocadoes are controversial ingredients...but I guess I'm saying I would rather that you did!

My only input is that perhaps when I PM you legitimate news stories relating to animals you should consider posting them. I understand that you won't post every single story someone submits, but the other Sugar staffers usually have the courtesy to at least respond. Besides, why post stupid stories about North all the time when you could instead post news items about soldiers' dogs being left behind in Iraq? Would it hurt to plug the news story about Petland and their huge puppy mill scandal?
