Worlds Largest Fish Tank

That's a Big Fishie Tank!

If you wanted to visit the world's largest fish tank, you'd have to go to Okinawa, Japan, home of the "Kuroshio Sea," otherwise known as the Churaumi Aquarium. Their fish tank is so humongous, it holds four whale sharks – the biggest fish alive!

Not only is the local sea life that's housed in the tank beautiful to look at, but the observation window at the Churaumi is a marvel on its own. The acrylic-resin window clocks in at 26 feet high by 73 feet wide, and almost two feet thick in order to hold the pressure of the water which is pumped in from 300 feet offshore. Don't the people in this picture look like fish food compared to these massive sea creatures!?

And I thought Aquatica was huge!

That honestly gives me an anxiety attack just looking at it. I'm deathly afraid of huge aquariums. It really is beautiful, though. I just don't know that I could handle it. & that Manta Ray - AMAZING!!

its not that great of an aquarium. The tank is pretty cool but it smells so bad in there because the restaurant is in the as well. the rest of the aquarium is sad. they have to fresh water manatees in the smallest tank that is just pure cement. I was not impressed with it at all.

Personally I think the Great White Shark they had at the Monterey Bay Aquarium last year was way more interesting than a whale shark. Whale sharks are cool but they are kinda common, every time I go scuba diving in Hawaii my group always see's one. Also, aquarium's are really not as fun as the real thing and I would so rather go diving than go to an aquarium.

I am not sure why anyone would get hoy out of seeing anything that dives to thousands of feet in the wild being locked in a fish bowl of 26 feet deep. It really grosses me as the one in Georgie did when I heard of that. It's just sad!!!

I live in Okinawa and this is one of the island's crown jewels. Standing at the base of the tank makes you feel so tiny. Aside from the whale sharks, there are also a few manta rays, which are amazingly beautiful. And watching the divers inside the tank interact with the sealife is fascinating.

Isnt that tank only like 2 million US gallons (7500 sq. meters according to the Churaumi website, which is just under 2 million gal). That wouldnt qualify it as the worlds largest tank- the Ocean Voyager exhibit in Atlanta GA is about 6 million gallons. Thats a huge difference (still, not like the one in Okinawa is small; I would love to have one of those in my house...).

This aquarium is AMAZING!!! I was there a few weeks ago and am planning on going back next month. My husband and I are stationed in Okinawa with the Navy. The coolest part about the huge tank is that there is a little snack/restaurant area that you can sit at and see the whale sharks and HUGE rays! If you are ever in Okinawa you HAVE to go to the CHurami Aquarium, and its only like 18$ to get in!

the altanta aquarium has 4 whale sharks in there tank whick is cool. the only difference it the tanks is that one in japan is round i do believe. from i hear the one in Japan is awesome. am hopeing to go there some day. i have been to the Ga one it is cool am planning on going back either this yr or next to do the behind scene tour where they take above the tanks includeing the whale shark tank which also houses one hammer head shark and it 13.somthing million gallons if i remember correctly but it is deffently worth checking out if you are down there and so is the coke factory next door and altanta underground is suppose to be good but check it out for yourselves. i can't wait to go back again. if you have been to the baltimore aquarium the altanta is way better.

Or you can save on airfare and go to Georgia Aquarium instead. Their Ocean Voyager exhibit was also designed to house at least 4 whale sharks (I'm not sure how many are currently there). And their viewing window is only slightly smaller at 23 feet by 61 feet and 2 feet thick. Plus there's a cool 100 foot long tunnel under the tank as well. And yes, the whale sharks are insanely cool to watch.
