Oregon Zoo — in collaboration with the Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife, US Fish and Wildlife Service, Washington State University, and Northwest Trek — continues to diligently work to help the rabbits make a comeback, and the breeding program's total reached 73 in 2009 with Oregon Zoo welcoming 25 babies!

12 individuals doesn't sound like a very large gene pool - sounds like there won't be much genetic diversity between individuals, making the species as a whole susceptible to disease. So sad - they are adorable!
