Year won: 2009

Was she cursed? Not even for a second. Even though we haven't heard from Adele in a while, it really doesn't matter, because her last album, 21, has been sitting pretty on the Billboard 200 charts since it was released in January 2011. Seriously, you guys; it has not left the charts in four years. She can probably take another two years off from recording and still be rolling in the dough because of "Rolling in the Deep." Nonetheless, we're still crossing our fingers for another new Adele album — even if it's titled 30.

Adele wrote her debut album at the age of 19, which also served as the title of the CD. The English singer-songwriter said the songs were about her own coming of age: "I just kinda remember becoming a bit of a woman during that time. And I think that is definitely documented in the songs."

The songs about heartbreak and longing, especially her Grammy-winning hit "Chasing Pavements," resonated with fellow teenagers and critics alike. The BBC called the album "genuinely touching, maturely considered, and brilliantly sung."

Adele followed up the album with 21 in 2011, which was anything but a sophomore slump. She took home six Grammys — tying an all-time record — at the 2012 awards ceremony.

Adele graced not just our list this year, but also all of Hollywood's biggest award shows. She performed "Skyfall" at the 2013 Oscars and won an Academy Award for the track, going on to joke that she is on her way to the coveted EGOT status. The English singer was on hand to win the Golden Globe for "Skyfall" as well, and at the Grammys her live performance of "Set Fire to the Rain" won her best pop solo performance. Above all her professional achievements, Adele also welcomed a baby boy in October 2012 with Simon Konecki.

Adele ranked 11th in the Game Changers category.
