The deal: It's no surprise that Zach Braff's film got picked up, since it's been getting a lot of attention ever since he used Kickstarter to get it off the ground. That said, Focus Features didn't have to shell out much for the distribution of the indie, which also stars Kate Hudson and Josh Gad.
What we thought: The cast is excellent, and it's refreshing to see Braff evolving on screen (this time, he's a father of two). Hudson is also a delight in a role that's far less showy than her typical fare. However, the script is a bit uneven, particularly in the first act, and ultimately Braff tries to go in too many different directions with his story.
