Banks Calling For Delinquent Credit Card Payments

News Flash: Make a Late Payment, Get a Call From the Bank

Looking for a job? According to The Wall Street Journal, many major banks in the US are bulking up their collections departments' personnel and emphasizing their efforts to contact late payers more immediately than before. If you go on vacation and forget to pay your credit card bill on time, you may return home to not only a late fee but a message from the bank issuer.

Credit card carriers are cracking down and calling delinquent payers as soon as one day after their bill was due. Pay your bill as soon as you realize it's past due, because your bank may call frequently with friendly reminders that you owe money. The Federal Reserve's most recent calculations show that Americans are carrying $969.9 billion in revolving debt, and consumers are leaning on credit cards more as unemployment goes up.

i used to work in the collections department 3 months ago for a bank, it was great pay (for a college student) but also stressing just to hear peoples problems and in some cases not being able to help b/c we couldn't set up a payment plan or anything. a great tip is if they call u and u normally pay on time, they'll see your history and most likely if u ask they will waive or lower your late fee, they are much rather interested in the payment than the fee.

My bank is OK when I forget (hard to remember when your in another country) but the phone company I owed money to was horrible! constant phone calls where they would hang up, or leave messages if my phone was on silent, they were threatening and everything. I called them and they were very unhelpful despite me wanting to pay them back as soon as I could. They should start realising they are massive companies with lots of money and most people want to pay, but are going through hard times.

Well, this post makes me feel a little less cuckoo about insisting that I handle the monthly bills for myself & my husband!

Wow! That kinda sucks. But oh well. That's fine. Call me and I'll pay. It's not like I forgot on purpose. Oh yes, I'd like a late fee, please.

well - i guess that's a good thing for some folks - knowing that there are jobs out there being a debt collector - but that's just not a job that i would want. you're calling people who already know that they have a problem and you're not making it any better for them. oh well... i set reminders for myself in my calendar on when payments are due so that i can avoid both the calls and the late fees since that's just MORE money that's added onto what i'm paying and with interest and all that - i need any/every break i can get.
