Bus Travel Tips

Have You Gone the Distance Via Bus?

While definitely not the most luxurious method of transportation, traveling longer distances via bus is very wallet-friendly. There are increased bonuses to choosing this form with more and more Greyhound buses offering free Wi-Fi or even tourist discounts at your destination with MegaBus.

Added in to this are perks not found with air travel, like fewer checked baggage charges and the ability to (legally) make an emergency call if necessary. It's as quick or quicker than driving yourself — for those routes with just a few stops — but without the behind-the-wheel responsibility and more time to sleep or chat. I've had a perfectly pleasant experience riding between NYC and DC via a Chinatown bus during my college years, but am I the only one?

I've done Denver to Los Angeles via Greyhound quite a few times. It takes 24 hours, which sucks, but the price can't be beat and I usually walk out of the station with at least one hilarious story to tell.

I've gone from Toronto to Calgary and back, and to Chicago a few times on the Greyhound.IT IS HORRIBLE! The Canadian ones aren't too bad*, but the American buses always seem to be nasty... one time we were remarking about the smell as we were boarding and the driver laughed and said, "You must be from Canada!" It's awful and uncomfortable and dirty, but the price sure can't be beat!*except that one time that dude ate the other passenger's head

Just went from Baltimore to NY via MegaBus. It's not the fastest way to travel, and not the most lux, but it's definitely CHEAP !

As a young teen I did NJ to DC, which was fine because I was with all my friends. I often did the, relatively short, NJ to NYC trip almost weekly when I was 16-18. Fun. I like the bus, except after a long day and having to sit in those uncomfortable seats and you dose off, only to wake up with a stiff neck. haha.
