Considered to be a "spectacular" meeting of land and sea, the highest peak of the King Range National Conservation Area is just three miles off the Pacific and towers at 4,088 feet. It expands over 68,000 acres and 35 miles, so you'll have to take a few back roads to reach the range. And while you're close by, check out the Humboldt Redwoods State Park — the trees are a California staple.
