Consider Going Cash-Only Over the Weekend

Money Tip: Consider Going Cash Only Over the Weekend

The weekend has a way of threatening my spending plan quite often, probably because it's tough for me to say no to an evening with friends that sounds like fun. Because the weekend tends to throw me off my spending game, I'm trying something new to reign in my bad habits from Friday through Sunday.

While I don't typically operate on a cash-only system, I'm giving it a go for weekends only. By restricting myself to a certain amount of cash, I'll have to make harder choices about what gatherings are worth attending and which can be skipped. Plus, I'll put effort into finding tasty and fun alternatives to the more expensive options.

Do you think going cash only on the weekends could be a spending solution for you?

I keep my cards with me, but I mainly use cash and use the cards for big purchases. It's been great because I'm finding that I spend less money and I'm very conscious about how I use it.

Weekends are awful for me for the same reason. I'll be great all week but when the weekend comes, it becomes "Movies? Sure! Restaurant? Great!...etc. I def. have to curtail my spending on the weekend because I can go through a lot of money and not even realize it! Savvy, I'm going to give this a try!

I do this every weekend. Its not that big of deal. A lot of the places I end up at only take cash anyway.

I should try this.

This is a good idea! I'm really too busy to spend anything during the week and using cash on the weekends would make me be a little more careful! I definitely have that "psychological attachment" to cold, hard, cash that you don't get from plastic! :)

i think that this could really be a smart thing assuming that you know what your plans are for the weekend and what you have to buy. i think that for myself - it's doable since i'm really limited in the shopping that i can do and can usually manage on a couple bucks for the weekend.

Savvy if only I could. Ha. I always get fearful that is something happened, car emergency and I had nothing on me but a few dollars and couldn't get a hold of someone I would be in a lot of trouble. Yes, I'm paranoid. :rotfl:

That's a good idea. My husband and I have decided to only eat out (if we even want to) on his day off. We've been eating out frequently so we're hoping this will help. I don't have a job so we're tight on money!

I don't usually go out on the weekends, but I do most of my weekly shopping on Sunday. I have to use cash for my groceries (my grocery store doesn't take credit cards), but I do use my credit card at Walmart to pick up the rest of my household needs.
