Cost of Rebate Checks Could Be Counterproductive

Cost of Rebate Checks Could Be Counterproductive

IRS employees haven't had the chance to be bored at work since the economic stimulus plan was announced this year. The IRS fielded six times the call volume during the week of May 24 than the same week last year, which meant extensive waiting time for callers.

A new report from the Government Accountability Office makes it clear that any consumer spending resulting from the checks may be outweighed by expensive processing and administration costs of the checks. Nothing says efficiency like spinning in circles, but at least the checks gave us some temporary relief from ever increasing gas prices.

If the rebate checks was such a waste of time and money why did you not send your back instead of using it HELP out with some the bills you have and instead of using it for gas yes I will admit the amounts could have been more and maybe a difference would have been seen but to those that say i didn't spend on myself or all that postage that was wasted you should have sent it back and told them to keep it, i'm pretty sure it would have made up for the wasted postage. you were not complaining when you got it and paid that bill and you damn sure were not complaining when you had gas for a week or two or whatever amount of time it was.

And I agree about the postage and paper waste - I got 3 notices total! What an amazingly frivolous waste!!!!

Yup, that's exactly where my stimulus check went. I drive 60 miles roundrip per day - in traffic! :( It didn't even cover 6 weeks worth of gas.

I just got my notice Friday and it told me I would have my check by the 6/27. I honestly forgot all about the check - I swear out of sight out of mind.

This is not to mention those ridiculous notices on which they spent all that postage - I got two of them!

I don't know anyone who had any 'fun' with their checks - everything went on bills and gas.

The "stimulus" plan was ridiculous. I used my check for bills, so did my bf, and most ppl I know... i dont know what kind of economic stimulus that provided...
