Could You Work With Your Mom?

Your Two Cents: Could You Work With Your Mom?

With Mother's Day just around the corner, it got me thinking about how many businesses are run by mother-daughter teams. It makes sense in that developing similar interests as your mom isn't unusual — like Bella and her affinity for all things beauty — but building a business with your mom would create a very unique dynamic when you go to work each day. There are all types of successful mother-daughter businesses out there — online jewelry stores, law firms, bakers, restaurateurs, clothing boutiques, and the list goes on! Could you make it work with your mom as your business partner?

No simply because my mom and I are two different people to even come to a business venture where we could agree (to disagree) most of the time. If that wasn't the case, we would NEVER get anything done.

I would love to spend more time with my mom in any capacity (we live 15 hours apart). Plus, my mom tends to have really great ideas that I would never have thought of and she's really great at getting things done without going completely crazy, so it'd be great to have that help.

i think that my mom is fantastic and has a lot to offer, but there is NO WAY that she and i would be able to work together and be successful. we have completely different interestes so we wouldn't find a business that would cross both of our paths, and well...we get along well for a couple days- but the week mark is the limit, and working with someone is more long term than that.

I think I could for some things, but then it might be hard if we disagreed a lot because we are both pretty assertive headstrong people.

Noooooooooo. I'd much rather find myself in a Wal-Mart parking lot, doing a keg stand while getting a colonoscopy, and simultaneously being forced to listen to The Alvin and the Chipmunks Christmas album! ;)

I'm with mini_pixie and Linny, I moved out 10 years ago and my Mom has been one of my Best Friends since. That being said, I don't think I could work with her. My Mom and I are too alike, and I drive myself nuts half the time and know being around someone so like me would make me crazy. I did work for my Dad for 8 years though, I was his Administrative Assistant. I left the job after I had my Son, and even though I don't miss the work, I totally miss working with my Dad! We were a great team. He was a fantastic boss, and even though I have always been a Daddy's Girl, working with me made me truly appreciate and respect him for how hard he works to provide for the family.

Yes! My mom is a badass and a great person to work with/for! Everyone loves her. Would I go back to being a teenie bopper living under her roof tho? Hell no! That woman doesnt let you go anywhere! :D

Good lord no. My mother and father ran a business together for 35 years, and it was always, always with the yelling. So. Much. Yelling.

ITA, shopaholic hunny! lol... we'd end up arguing over something instead of getting the job done!

I love my mother with all my heart and soul, and she is an amazing businesswoman but I don't think that we could cooperate to run a successful business together. We'd have too many arguments about which way to take the company. But I wish I could, because I love my mother so much :)

I could ... and I do! My mom and her brother own the construction company that my grandfather started and I work there. My mom is not my boss, but we do work together on projects fairly frequently and we see each other just about every day. It has good and bad points, but for us, the good far and away outweighs the bad!

I have already worked with my mom and it was great! She was my manager as it was and gave me a little more flack then most but she and I were a great team and I wish I could do it again :)

I have worked with my mom, and I loved it. My mom is awesome. If she would ever start the business that she wants to start, I would gladly quit my job to work for her.

My mom is awesome. I lived with her in college and while looking for a job and she enjoyed "working" as my assistant. She still tries to help me out a lot in that way. I think we could work together if it was an agreement of equals. I don't think either of us would be happy working for the other one, but working together would be pretty cool.
