Could You Work With Your Sibling?

Combining work and family can be tricky, particularly when things aren't running at their smoothest. Siblings add an especially interesting dynamic, because there's not much stopping them from speaking the truth and bringing up outside issues. However, the instinctive open communication between sisters or brothers could be a good thing. Could you work with your sibling?

We barely tolerate each other during holiday functions. My sister is too bossy and immature so there is no way we could work in the same department.

I have worked with my mother for the last 6 years in a very small office. Her and I are the only full time employees in the office with just one other part timer. We have our ups and downs, but all together we work good together, in fact, we probably work better together than we would with anyone else. We know how the other thinks and will react to things, and how to show the other sides of a situation.

I have three siblings and I'd actually love to someday work with my youngest sister but I don't know about my other sister and brother - that might not go so well. Just planning my brother's rehearsal dinner with him was a task since our work styles are very different.

Yes. My sister and I are as close as twins. We used to work together before I left the company to return to school. We always got along great.

i could probably work with my brothers - given that our areas of expertise are SO DIFFERENT that we would each have our own piece of things to manage. my oldest brother is the technical one, my middle brother is the business minded/numbers one, and then i'm the creative, sales one. (although that leaves my youngest brother to be also technical but i wouldn't want to work with him)

i worked with my sister for a summer and it was fine. my brother, probably not because we have differing views on authority.

I could and I have, I've even worked with my mother. If you leave the family business at home there shouldn't be an issue.

I could and I DO! Me, my mother and my sister all worked together for awhile...then my mother and I left and went somewhere else...and now we're split up again, but I just got my sister a job today where I work. I'm so excited to have one of them back with me! I absolutely love working with her!

I wish I could say yes, but I just don't think we could work together. We love eachother, we have fun, but he's way more uptight and rigid than I am and I think we'd want to kill eachother after a short period of time.

The question is: WOULD I work with my sibling? Hell to the no. I only have a younger brother, and we are two completely different types of people. Our personalities clash a lot. Never in my life will I actually have a salaried job with him!

Not even remotely. We can't make it through a weekend together without fighting.

I don't know...probably not. My sis is a fun person to be around, but we have VERY different styles of working and usually when we work on anything together, we end up getting in each other's way and we start fighting.

I don't know what we'd to together. He's 12 and I'm 20 but we've always got on pretty well. I think we could!
