This Couple Is Claiming Their Share of That Record-Breaking Powerball . . . 6 Months Later

In January, the Powerball reached a record-breaking $1.5 — it was the biggest jackpot in history. It was reported that three winning tickets were sold, but up until today, only one of the winners had claimed their prize. Marvin and Mae Acosta just came forward to collect their share of the winnings. After meeting with a legal team and financial advisors, the couple decided to take the $327.8 million payout before federal taxes.

The couple released a statement in which they detailed what they will do with their prize: donate to charities and invest the rest of the winnings in a trust.

"We are thankful and blessed for the rare gift that has been placed in our care," they said in one news release. We have engaged a team of advisors to educate and guide us through this process so that we can be good stewards of these new resources."

Additionally, the couple asks that their privacy is respected — which might explain why they waited so long to claim the jackpot (and we don't blame them!).
