Coupon Master Mom Shows Us How She Does It

This Lady Has a Black Belt in Shopping: Watch Her Shop

Stephanie Nelson, founder of CouponMom.com, was featured in a segment on The Early Show and led correspondent Priya David through her "strategic" shopping tips and tricks. Priya asked questions about saving time versus clipping coupons, and why should a shopper buy an item she doesn't like as much as another just because it costs less. They performed a challenge where they started with identical lists, but Stephanie's bill came out to be $73.35 while Priya's cost $232.60. Watch the Coupon Mom in action:

whoa! It seems like so much work! But with a price tag like that I'm sure it's worth it!

awesome!! There have been a few times where using coupons meant that the store actually paid me to buy the product LOL!

I hate grocery shopping. It's just one of those chores I can't stand like putting away laundry. So I tend to go to the SuperTarget to shop for groceries and other "fun" stuff. Target is competitively priced for the groceries but after this I know I can do better. I liked her advice about meal planning based on what is on sale. I don't clip coupons anymore because it's never anything I should be eating - tends to be all the bad stuff. But the grocery ads and meal planning and cost per item comparison is something to do!

I agree about the speed-walking! So funny ... they kept having little mixups and the camera guy almost tripped her with the cord ... I have one of those passbooks that kids sell at school and it came with 8 coupons for $10 off a $50 purchase at Tom Thumb. I am single so I don't usually need $50 worth of groceries, but I stock up on the things I eat/use a lot of on those shopping trips (especially when they are on sale), and once the coupon is combined with the store card savings I usually save between 40-50% of the total price.

I don't think I'll be clipping coupons anytime soon, but I should definitely watch out for stuff on sale. I am so bad about throwing produce away, I should just admit that I WON'T eat citrus, don't finish the bread, and probably won't eat all that lettuce in time. I thought it was sooo funny how they speed-walked around the store, to point out, like two items lol.

These stories recently of women being so good at shopping really astounds me. I guess I need to try harder and care more about saving! The most I do is buy generic brands.
