Debt Awareness Campaign

Your Two Cents: Credit Card Condoms?

A new debt awareness campaign compares "debt disease" to STDs. The campaign is holding a contest for the best public service announcement and the winner will get $5,000.

Here's a tip about prevention and treatment of debt disease from the Keep It In Your Pants site:

Abstinence is the only surefire way to avoid catching Debt Disease. If you're concerned that you or your friends can't keep your credit card in your pocket, Credit Card Condoms could be helpful. Keep in mind: although Credit Card Condoms are 99.9% effective, they are only an aide for learning to live a debt–free lifestyle.

What do you make of this whole thing?

I love, love, LOVE this. So many people see credit cards as a way to "build credit" or "for emergencies" or "just this once". Way too much debt later we NOW see realize what they really are.

The idea of comparing debt to an STD wasn't bad, but the condom idea is kinda cheesy. They really should implement a mandatory seminar at all high schools about debt prevention and how credit cards really work. Just like they teach us about sex, they should teach us about money. College students get in the most trouble with those 2 things.

I think this is a great idea. Anything that can hold attention and teaches a lesson is A okay in my book.

I think its a great message and one more likely to remember because it reminds you of sex. as an added note of comic relief, when I first glanced at the headline of this poll, I thought it was some sort of sanitizing sleeve to keep the germs off your credit cards which might be sort of cool too.
