Do You Focus On Your Job When Other Things Go Downhill?

Do You Focus on Your Job When Other Things Go Downhill?

Breaking up with George Clooney seems like it would be catastrophic for a girl lucky enough to date him, but in this week's People a friend of Sarah Larson's says that post-breakup Sarah is focusing on her work.

Putting your extra energy into your work can be a productive way to spend your time while getting over something else, whether it be a breakup, a fight with a friend, an argument with a family member, or when you're feeling down in general. Working harder is likely to get noticed and will get you the compliments and ego-boost you need, and the feeling of accomplishment when you surprise yourself is something that nobody else can give you.

Of course the real issues need to be addressed at some point, but do you tend to focus on your job when other areas of your life aren't stable?

If I like/love my job, yes. If I hate my job, it just adds insult to injury and I can't find any comfort in the work that I do. It all feels pointless and lonely. Suffice to say that lately, whenever I had difficulty at home, I'd fall apart at work too.

The opposite. If something horrible happens to me, it definitely effects my work and school. I became so wrapped up in emotions I forget to focus on the bigger picture.

My boyfriend and I broke up about a month ago. This has been a busy time at work anyway so it is great to just throw myself into this even more than I already would have. This makes me look good in front of my boss, earns me overtime pay and keeps me from having too much time to think about *him* since I am so focused on my work.

And I get the feeling (and no, this isn't nice of me!) that Sarah Larson had her eye on the job potential all during the relationship.

Things have to be near catastrophic to noticably affect my work. I think I may buckle down a little at the office when home feels unsteady, just to give myself the illusion of control.

I thought she was a cocktail waitress? Unfortunately, if things are bad for me outside of work, it affects me during work.

i think that it's only normal to focus on work when other things aren't going as well as you'd like since work can take up a lot of your free time.

Maybe she got use to the lifestyle and knew she had to formulate a plan to continue this in her future.I try never to let my job performace become affected with things in my personal life. I cut that off at the door and its hard to do at times, that is why breaks and outside lunch are a must.
