Do You Procrastinate?

I'm Asking: Are You Guilty of the P Word?

Procrastinating was something of an art form during college, almost like a little game to see how many other things I could find to do instead of my pending papers. I find that procrastinating in my professional life has pretty much been a nonissue, and has only reared its little head during the slowest of times. Why is it that when you have nothing to do and a project comes up, it's so much harder to get motivated than adding another project to a busy schedule? So, would you call yourself a procrastinator? And if you're someone who never puts things off until the last minute, perhaps you could share your tactics on how you get motivated.

Some things I let slide more than others but I always make sure to get things done when they need to be done. I mean no one is perfect.

i think that we all do it - and then use the excuse that we work GREAT under pressure. as i've gotten older though i've learned that sometimes it really is better to plan ahead and get things done

I was a HUGE procrastinator when I was in college...I'd always wait until the last minute to cram for a test or write a paper. But I found I always did well under this pressure--I almost always would ace the test or get an A on the paper. I'm less of a procrastinator with my job...I like to get things done before their deadline so I don't have to stress or worry.

Lol, I have always gotten 100% on the projects I did literally on the way to class! And somehow, when I try to do something way before the time, it is just so far from my best work. I guess because I just don't feel motivated if I know I still have time.

One hour before deadline is when my essay-writing skills are at their best! :-D

I'm known to procrastinate when I do not want to do something, I also get really stubborn too. I always finish my project however I don't start right away. If I'm excited something then I don't want to wait, however if i'm dreading something then I'll wait as long as I can until I have to start it.

I'm the biggest procrastinator. I'm horrible and it makes things 10x worse.

It depends. I learned awhile ago that it is not best to procrastinate because something always seems to happen whenever I plan to do the thing I was procrastinating doing. I have learned the busier I am, the less I procrastinate.

Totally and all the time! In fact, just like WhiplashGirlchild, I'm doing it right now too. Instead of studying for my exam tomorrow I'm watching the California Republican Debate haha. It's a habit that all my friends and I do and we just can't help it. I tend to do all my essays and study for all my exams at the last minute and end up doing well :) ^ I agree that to-do lists are useful. I have like a desktop organizer program too but I still procrastinate because now a days, (and now that it's exam week) when ever the program pops up when I start my computer, I just close it. Boo-hoo.

It depends on what it is, but I think I am pretty on top of things, generally. I find it super helpful to make to-do lists and put them in front of my face (haha not literally, but either on my computer desktop or by my desk) so I can cross items out once I've finished and it gives me a huge sense of satisfaction to do that!

My job is no longer challenging, and it leaves me bored. I think I procrastinate because when I have to do things under a deadline, it makes it more challenging. For years I went above and beyond and challenged myself all the time...I took on more and more responsibility and moved up within the company very quickly. Unfortunately, my company is pretty cheap and they don't pay well for the work that I do, so after a while I realized that I was only going to get paid X no matter how much work I did or how much I applied myself. It totally killed my motivation! They are flexible with my schedule, and I have plans for the future, so it doesn't make sense to move on right now. So, in the meantime, yeah....I procrastinate a LOT.

I am the queen of procrastination. I feel like I have a ton of motivation to do things, only I always end up finding "other" ways to fill my time. Maybe I'll form a procrastinator's club...later. :)
